Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

GE transparency

What happened to GE's famed transparency? Seriously? Since people at the top tend to boast how transparent they are when it comes to work, then why can't we be told what's really going on? Who was let go and who is on the list to be let go of next? Or does transparency not apply to such menial things as employees' peace of mind? /rant

If I was on 'the list' I wouldn't want my name published to my nosy colleagues either. Some want names out of true genuine concern, others do not. I would want to have the choice WHEN to let my colleagues know I was cut....

@sms - isn't it obvious? All these layoffs are being done low key to avoid media attention. I'm guessing most investors have absolutely no idea that any layoffs have been taking place. I bet if there had been some big announcement of layoffs in the press, investors would have noticed and perhaps the stock would be increasing a bit. Quite frankly I have no idea why GE is doing it this way. Widespread layoffs are largely expected so why not get it out? Maybe holding out for something bigger to come? Your guess is as good as mine.

With all these layoffs, why is the GE stock is at the rock bottom and going no where? Any idea?

You'd think GE would be touting the layoffs in the stock market press--like HP used to do. Of course HP was kinda weird that they'd announce they're laying off 1,000 employees. Then turn around and hire 1,100.

Then the markets would react positively--as the markets seem to love layoffs.

I dont feel it is their obligation to tell who was laid off. I mean most people just want to know out of being nosey not out of concern for co-workers. As for giving employees advance notice I completely agree. But by keeping us out of the loop it just shows just how little GE truly cares about its employees.

I agree. This is not transparent at all. They should at least announce layoffs related to the specific office /area/plants.. etc. layoffs instead of reading it from the internet. Their layoff strategy is apparently known by the whole world, but actual employees.
