@QCNTjR4-enqu: You are surely kidding when you say that layoffs seem far less after the Arris acquisition of Motorola.!! Motorola sites have laid off older people every now and then, and the old-boys network is ever so strong.
@QCNTjR4-enqu: Sorry, I dont buy it at all!!! The old Boys network makes arbitrary decisions to lay off individual contributors. Contributors who have had terrific reviews every year and who show ability but are older, The managers made sure they keep their favorite individual contributors - that's all. The whole Motorola/Arris system is rotten and the old boys network is well fed.
Unlike your assessment, I don't think the system is right and I hope the system changes or is forced to change. The time is ripe!
@QCNTjR4-5pjo I agree with your posting to some extent. Motorola legacy sites have a long history of protecting the "old boys network" but that network included management and individual contributors. ARRIS does not protect those who show up to collect a paycheck --- they off them as soon as reasonably possible and I've witnessed improved morale as a result. I've also witnessed instances where ARRIS has shifted employees to new programs when others have been EOL'd rather than face a large layoff. Layoffs as a result of acquisitions are no less painful than others and I feel for everyone affected (and, naturally, observe everyday activities around me for indications of more), but layoffs do seem far less common since the ARRIS acquisition of Motorola -- I hope that does not change.
As usual, no Arris management will be let go - the old boys network runs wide and deep. They can enjoy careers well into their 60s while the tech folks will get laid off at around age 50.
Sorry to hear about the Brocade jobs. I heard one ARRIS employee in Seattle was let go last week.
