Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

Inexperienced and Disconnected

How can GE be so stupid to promote inexperienced and disconnected with little expertise to become managers and leaders, who often make bad decisions and destroy the viability of the work force .

GE managers used to be the best of the best, most expert with very in depth knowledge and good judgment. This is the six sigma mantra that you don't have to understand the business to run it.

Putt's Law: "Technology is dominated by two types of people: those who understand what they do not manage and those who manage what they do not understand."

Putt's Corollary: "Every technical hierarchy, in time, develops a competence inversion." with incompetence being "flushed out of the lower levels" of a technocratic hierarchy, ensuring that technically competent people remain directly in charge of the actual technology while those without technical competence move into management.

GE is a broken company in terminal decline. The reason is explained in most of the posters here and that is the people running the company don't know what they're doing. There's no defence.....no 'ifs or 'buts' or 'maybes'. Sheer incompetence has driven this mess to the wall. The stock value is telling you that.

This is the term we often hear when workers describe their GE managers.

It is so true and is obvious that GE is promoting the wrong people who don't know how to do the work, and don't care. In the old GE you used to have to be an expert and really know what you are doing to manage a group. It is unfortunate that in almost every area of the business,

In almost every area in GE, this is what we see.

This is what is destroying GE
