We were just doing a little Christmas Shopping for a cell phone. My hubby was put out to pasture in 2015, but by some mathematical miracle he was eligible for retirement benefits. At the time he was able to purchase nice Motorola phones for a discount. When we called today the Verizon employee said that there were no specials for employees. We would pay the same price as the general public, there had been no employee special since 2016. Just checking to make sure that was correct information. I hope other layoff victims are doing OK. We miss the money and benefits, do not miss the Verizon IT life.

Sorry, a little protective of spouse's rights to come here. It's not all sunshine and rainbows after a layoff just because there is a big check. It helps to hear how others are doing. Have a peaceful holiday.
Deep breath, it was obviously a little levity (hint: ;-).
Dear Control Freak, I was here looking for an answer about the phone benefit for retirees. If there is a place on Facebook that has that info let me know. We didn't like the answer we got when we called the Verizon line and I was checking to see if it was correct or if the person on the end of the line was misinformed.
"Doctor, I have "this friend" who..."
@kdk, you really peruse a website regarding a company your spouse used to work for?
What's wrong, Facebook down ;-)
Hubby's number was a little over 72. We were quite surprised to be eligible since he was so young. The environment was very toxic sprinkled with some nice people. He was very proud to work a Verizon, but he is also very happy to be away from there and I never have to wake him up anymore for work. He is always up and happy at the first alarm. He works with wonderful people now, warm and fuzzy may not pay as many bills, but it sure makes for a happy workday. The J3 phone might be good for me. I like my little flip phone, but I would like to take some pictures and text at faster than a snail's pace.
It’s the Rule of 75. Age plus service. I left at age 51 with 25 years of service in November 2015. I took the money and ran. You don’t realize just how toxic the environment is at VZ until your away from it.
Has anyone who either works at Verizon or have since retired/laid off know of receiving early retirement benefits when years of service and age equal 72? Hence being considered early retired?
I got the cheapest Samsung Galaxy J3 for under $200 from the web page and it works very well.
Thanks. There is a Holiday special on the S8. Buy one get one free. I guess that is pretty good if you need two phones.
Yes no device specials for employees. You get the accessory discount (including accessory of the month)
