Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Layoffs Christmas edition

No major layoffs reported this past week. Total for FY18 remains at 7,275; since 6/1/2016 at 17,275.

Next six months will be interesting. Still hundreds of millions left in the restricting reserve and expectations of major layoffs to come. However, with the tax cuts, the 2018 election and the partisan political environment, making major layoffs will be very tricky. Any large coporation that lays off people and sends jobs abroad, runs the risk of being called out by the Democrats in major way in the run up to the election. And the fact that both LE and SC are well know Republicans would not help. Will be very interesting to see what oracle does over the next 6 - 9 months.

Happy Holidays everybody!

Gotta be some layoffs in Jan/Feb since no big grouping of layoffs yet this quarter. They have to meet their restructuring numbers and stick their plan.

True, except that with big corporate tax cuts, Trump’s friends behaving badly have some news and campaign appeal. And LE is a multi- billionaire who now benefits from the tax cuts on multiple ways. We’ll have to see.

I honestly don't see Oracle's past and future layoffs showing up in any campaign's radar, simply because we are tech workers. People will just shrug and think "they'll find something else". There never has been nor will there be the same level of sympathy for white collar workers as there is for laid off factory workers.
