Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Future of Retail

Just for the record here as we seem to have a back an forth on the future of retail at VZ all the time...

Verizon won’t be getting rid of retail anytime soon. This year alone the have invested hundreds of millions of dollars on things FOR retail. Stores may come and go but that’s the norm. Retail itself is not going to disappear as a whole...

No commission in retail will be happening soon. The company is already starting to shape retail for it. Offering insanely high quotas and ensuring no solution specialist or manager make any money is step number one. This way when they offer an hourly wage only, most will take it as it will be more than they have made in a while. Managers and SS are starving so they will be thankful for the crumbs they are given. Sad really.

During a center visit earlier this year, Ronan made a comment stating that his vision is to go commission-free in retail.

They are going to probably get rid of commission once the new year starts. They'll keep retail but it will be a lot different. Vzw wants people to buy online. Goal is for stores to help with set up, phone issues, act issues

amo - LOL. That is exactly how our execs work. Reversing things frequently and claiming both the changes worked great

Verizon will most likely keep next gen and smart stores and turn the rest over to indirect

Not making sense isn't exactly a barrier! (Although I get your point)

My fave during my time at GTE was the frequent centralize/decentralize change, where every so often some exec would have the brilliant idea of either (depending on the current state and propose the opposite)

1) Taking some functions from the regional operating companies and centralizing them for cost-savings and efficiency

2) Putting these functions into the regional operating companies so that they could best serve their (local) customers needs.

Each time we switched it was a GREAT thing, and I assume various execs got big bonuses. And you can repeat for ever (or until the merger at any rate)

I hope not. If Verizon stores went away, where would I go to steal iPhones?

Verizon doesn’t directly own indirect. Why would they invest so much money in expanding retail if they plan on outsourcing. Think about it. It doesn’t make sense.

That's what we have indirect for.
