Thread regarding BHP Billiton Ltd. ADS layoffs

Incompetence is rewarded at BHP Billiton

I'm so tired of blatant favoritism and nepotism here. hard workers are rarely if ever recognized for their contributions, while people who are mediocre at best get frequent praise and are promoted over the better workers on regular bases.

It's all about who you know, not what you know and what you can do. I've seen complete incompetence be rewarded with a promotion. How? why? Only the management knows. The management that is either friends or family with those promoted.

This is not just one department, either. This is prevalent all over the company. It's driving good people away. I can't understand how it continues to happen in this day and age...

If you got out I applaud you. I feel sorry for those that remain that are still there. Nepotism is definitely evident but s-xism against men is now rife across the business. You have no chance to excel or move up the ladder unless you are the right s-x or contribute to make a team diverse. Just look at that news article about Burak Powers - nothing about it now as it was probably settled out of court and swept under the carpet. Shame on him for selling out. There are so many that I can see that are utterly useless and they will get promoted over you. Why work for a company that gives you no career path to progress. You cannot complain either or you are a pariah. I wish everyone decent would leave and then see how far they get.

Same in Petroleum, project services being the worst. Worst culture, led by incompetence rewarding failure to keep the inner circle intact. Organization wouldn’t last 5 mins at any other competent operator.

Nepotism has devistated that company! Indians and their hierarchal culture rules the company and you find them reporting back to back to each other, taking opportunities away from everyone else. If you are an Indian kissass, then you will thrive or if you could somehow fit into such a culture to jump off the window if your manager said so without asking questions, then you will grow as fast as mushrooms. My honest advice, find a job somewhere else and spare yourself a good state of mind. Everyone deserves better than this!
