Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Tough decisions in storage

Jeff Clarke is going to take tough decisions. In this climate of declining storage revenues and disruptive technologies there is but no other option. The SC all flash was released last week with very little capital investment. This is no new candy for the kids but an added selling point. Unity side there are updates planned with inline dedupe. These are not high investment. All low capex stuff.

Jeff is going to plug the leaks where storage organization is bleeding. The hyper converged cyclone an idea that is too late and high cost. There are alternative vendor based solutions Dell will look into (smell something nutty). That's what dell is good at, assembling things. Dell has never been a company which can build IP and disrupt the market with innovation. Dell is an efficient assembler and supply chain optimizer. EMC is a spent force with all their best talent eroded after the merger. What is left in EMC is the residual non performers and below average engineering talent. This starts right from the clueless GM, EVP and CTO to the lowest level engineer. They are third class. It is a no brainer with Jeff clark in the reins there is going to be a different third party OEM vendor approach to enhance product portfolio. This means what to the existing teams- lowering cost through layoffs and moving work to India and China. Wake up and smell the coccaine.

JC has never been able to see beyond PC's and has been the driving force in keeping the money losing PC business at Dell. It's been evident for many years and will not change unless JC is removed.

lol, JC was a tester when joined in dell, what would he do with EMC, scratch the balls?, all he good is in identifying frauds under him, the days are counted for dell, will surely fall on its own weight and there is no moat in its business

Jeff Clarke can't do anything. He is worse than the EMC executives who were fired and the ones going to be fired in the coming months. JC is a thick brained Texan. I am sure he is that kind of guy who supports gun culture in America, a republican and of course a Trump supporter. He is like the hitman for Michael. He is put in that place to do a clean up job.

This is bogus.. work will never be moved to India where we have Dell Bangalore Storage division which is incompetent to say the least. China, yes.

Day 399, still no visible result of buying EMC, just good people running out the door and turf wars among managers.

Dell would never have brought EMC If leaders like Jeff Clarke could turnaround Storage business for Dell. They just don't have the expertise. This is not assembling and selling laptops and servers.

Writing is on the wall. Netapp, Pure and Nutanix will spell doom for Dell EMC storage. Jeff Clarke doesn't have the expertise in Storage to make a turnaround for Dell. The storage team is full of free loaders with no energy. The only option for Jeff is to reduce the costs while Dell works on new acquisitions and partnerships. What a pathetic state of affairs the largest technology acquisition in the world has resulted. This will go down as the biggest disaster in M&A, much worse than AOL and Time Warner.

There are WAY too many storage specialists tripping over themselves in the sales org. Very highly paid and only working their own tiny silo, too many lines of storage. Competing for the same bids and same shrinking pie, but always unavailable to get involved in complex deals that dont fit their exact scope

Conversely, not enough specialists or skills to cover growth areas outside of storage and no Pan Dell Solutioning people to pull together what customers want end to end, so the sales staff just had to make it up and hope it sticks.

This has to change

Idiots. Dell is not a mom and pop shop. Michael has his tentacles spread into us government and major fortune 500 companies. That will sustain the business.

Not many people realize this, once the downslide starts it will accelerate exponentially. Two more quarters of negative growth and the downward curve is going to go steep. Dell EMC can go down the toilet pretty fast. Timebomb is ticking.

Very Sad vmax vmax getting skrewed in the magic quadrant. Dell has always given too much importance to the gartner reports. looks like writing on the wall. apocalypse is near.

Considering all the wiseacring done here, it would be prudent for michael dell to fire the top storage leadership. fire all ab, bb, cb, db ..jb..xb, bx. get new breed of leaders from outside - from amazon, netapp, hp, Walmart labs.. or just get some dopehead from a silicon valley startup. they will be much better than these jokers. only hope to make a turnaround..

Well said, man! I second your words after 15 years at EMC. BTW, did you see the latest result from the Magic Quadrant for Gen purpose array. NimbleStorage rules big time.. VMAX is behind both NimbleStorage (HP) and NetApp. Imagine this - NetApp is better than EMC high end array .. Also , curiously Infinidat is nowhere to be seen in the Leaders quadrant - looks like they have headaches on their own and will not be surprised if Moshe ditches his newest toy and collect the cash quickly.
