I am DM in the Central territory with some inside information... Round two of layoffs will be happening shortly after inventory and will affect overpaid SM and Ops. Company is looking to close at least 250 underperforming locations with lease renewals in 2018. Dana and RMs are prepping District staff for these next rounds of cuts and it appears as though many SM and Ops positions will be filled by remaining District positions after layoffs. District positions will be taking on 10-15 stores a piece so it appears as though after the next round of layoffs as many as half of the District and Regional positions will be eliminated in preparation for the buyout. Resumes need to be updated and out. I’m fortunate to have found an equal paying job but i know many might not be as lucky. Good luck everyone.

It could happen. It's business. I know a few DM's and I would like to believe that the few I knew wouldn't be on here with just rumors. If you have something to say just say it. I have been with the company for awhile and I am happy with the way I have been treated with BBB. If you are a DM then shame on you. If you are a disgruntled employee shame on you too.
I don’t have a copy. But yes. It should also be in the portal. You can call 401k and ask them to remail it to you. I agree completely. They don’t want to pay out the 401k match to all the people they are going to lay off. It even said in the letter that they were doing it to save money. It also said it was being used as “incentive” for people to stay. In my opinion this is what I would consider “shots fired”
I would be interested in hearing others opinions on the letter which was mailed out several months ago, regarding the changes in how BBB was going to apply their matching portion of the 401K.
I wish I had saved that letter, but at the time just skimmed over it and tossed it. Didn't really give it much thought until recently. If I remember correctly, it said something along the lines of how their contribution, starting in 2018, was going to be given to the employee the last day of December, not monthly as before. Also, (and this really raised an eyebrow), it said that if you were not employed by BBB for the entire year (literally, up to and including the last day of December 2018), you would not be eligible to collect any matching funds which would have been paid out by them had they been still paying monthly. Meaning, if you get sacked in June, they're not going to go ahead and pay their contribution for six months; you get nothing if you leave (or are conveniently let go) before end of December.
Did I understand this correctly? Do any of you still have a copy of the letter? I don't participate in their 401K, but if these changes true that's a huge red flag.
John (HR) is actively covering up incidents that have happened at the District level and higher. Johnny (DM) was reported by a manager for a s-xual harassment incident that happened in a store and it only took three months for that manager to be placed on PIP and worked out of the system. These occurrences are not out of the norm for Dana and Steve’s areas. The good ol’ boys club is alive and well and they all cover for each other when their indiscretions are brought to light. As a DM it is not appropriate to make s-xual advances and invite managers to bars for a drink or your hotel to visit, yet this is happening and covered up by people in positions of power. I’ve been with other companies and it’s obvious that the role of HR for BBB is solely in the interest of District and Regional staff.
If anyone here that is still a BBB keyholder or higher and thinks their job is still safe, you're crazy. There will always be someone out there willing to do your job on the cheap, be it an hourly role or salaried for less such as a newly graduated college job seeker accepting half the salary you make. Or if you are lucky and survive round two, you can expect to have way more responsibility in the form of more stores to watch over including the expanded territory you now need to travel to. Not enough hours in the week to do your job now, see how much harder it's going to get when you have even more stores to worry about. I lost my job as a dept. manager, and my key holder told me that those of who lost our jobs got the better deal with the severence we got. Think again if the gurus at BBB will be that generous with 1 week severence for each year of service up to 16 weeks like round 1. Hate to see good people lose their jobs, but there are others in position that one wonders how they still do. You are a number, regardless of time served, and it's about to be called.
Early indications confirming some of the rumors. Arizona district ops taking on as many as 15 stores, including an hourly worker having already taken over an ops position at a local store, apparently nearly done with their training. The former ops manager is now a key holder. If I were an ops manager with a high salary, it would be prudent to plan accordingly.
This is for the Central Dm. I was one of the Department Managers that got let go in the Midwest. If you are hiring at your current job, please give me your email address so I can send my resume. I’m willing to relocate. Thanks.
I'd be suspect of small day-to-day gains, could be short positions being covered. Have any of you seen the short interest? It'll be the battle of the shorts vs the sellers dumping a loser vs the buyers trying to buy low enough for measly gains before the buyer's price is known. What a fight!
Apropo the BBBY stock price, don't expect it to advance past what the private equity buyer is willing to pay. Anyone buying at $20 and looking forward to massive gains will be gravely disappointed, like those who bought anywhere near the previous highs. And, don't forget that BBBY feels the pain, too, their inability to do stock buybacks at the appropriate price is quite funny to say the least.
The Ops Manager I know is making 85 grand is in the Bolingbrook area. Why wasn’t he laid off like other Ops Managers? Because Fran is protecting him. Good ole boys club!
Now I know why they hated the idea of having a union. I have yet to find a job thanks for the loyalty. I’m in the processof losing my home. Happy Holidays
Any conversation about west coast ? Been with BBB 14 years now and getting scared to see what’s next. The district people right now some but NOT all but probably most are so rude they come into the stores like they own the place and basically talk down to you and make you wonder how they are in the position they are in. They should be what they are called SUPPORT. But again let me be clear some and probably most but not all. There are some really great district people. Same for store managers some great ones and some that should never be a store manager but they are. The new west coast VP is very positive wants to build a team talks about the team and then there are store managers that can’t stop using the words like “ I and ME “ takes one bad manager to make people want to leave but a great manager will want people to follow and do good. Stock is at 19.00 that’s just crazy from where it was at just a year ago.
Been with BBB for 14 years spent last 4 as OPS manager. Newly promoted 50 hour manger is now ops and I am back to the sales floor manager. The newly promoted was only a dept manager just 6 months ago guess the writing is on the wall and time to start looking. But not much out there from what I’ve herd. Just going to remain positive for now and keep digging. And by reading these posts and if they are true then those getting promoted now making far less money to do same job.
This is real, people. Don’t doubt that winter is coming. Please, please , please get out while you can. There are so many of you who are the BEST at what you do! No one works harder than the salespeople that BBB made their fortune at the expense of. Any employer would be lucky to snap y’all up!! Get out while you can.
I applaud Central DM for giving a head’s up. I really wish we had a head’s up this past summer because I still do not have a job after over a dozen interviews. This Thanksgiving I will be getting me meal from a food bank. I never thought this would happen to me but here I am. Worked my fingers to the bone, missed my kid’s recitals, games, plays over the years. Kudos to anyone who is sharing inside information. I wish there were more people like you.
How are they going to select the SMs to be cut? Just money?
Well, in my district, we lost one senior manager. This area is strong as far as sales. Based on my wage, I could find another job fairly quickly. Sure there is talk and, under the circumstances, that's understandable. There’s so much hearsay, I'm concerned, however. When the time comes, I will do what I need to do. My DM has taken care of me since being here. Time will tell...
Central DM is absolutely right. Not only did Midwest DM leave for Walmart but District HR left for a camping store after being with BBB for 12 years. Get your head out of the sand. There are Ops Managers making 85 grand out there at Bbb in the Midwest I know 2. People are leaving fling gang-busters.
The person or persons claiming that these are all just rumors, believe what you want it’s not just rumors, here in Union we know.
Anyone claiming there is nothing to worry about, or asking to speak with this Dm whistle blower are more than likely corporate BBB employees. Our DM here in the Midwest left the company for Walmart after almost 20 years of service and our district customer service quit the same day. The writing is on the wall people, look up last years earnings compared to this
As far as I am concerned, this is just a rumor and should be taken with a HUGE grain of salt.
Do not trust things you read on the internet, anyone could have posted this. It's just a rumor for now, we'll see what happens.
I talk to folks at my store, I hear rumors all the time, most of them never pan out.
So, please be cautious.
Anyone hiring in the Midwest for managers?
Central DM, I worked for BBB not to long ago. Not sure if I know you, but if you're looking for a good employee where you're at let me know. I'm in need of a job asap.
I have yet to hear any talk of hourly workers on the front lines being in the line of fire, the fact that this company is management heavy is not helping matters one iota. We need to shore up the hourly workers that have given more of themselves than some of the management.
Seasoned full timers is vague, you would need to provide more info before trying to scare employees at store level.
You mention being a "DM" and having found "an equal paying job." I find this a bit perplexing, does this mean you have another position with BBBY now or are working for another company and conveying this info from contacts.
Seasoned full timers will be affected as well. Get out while you can. You have been warned.
Yes, these cuts are company wide along with the 250 stores mentioned. I do not know which stores are up for lease renewals, but the number that was relayed to the District and Regional teams was roughly 250 stores. It was also mentioned that District and Regional staff affected by the realignments would be given positions at store level, given the vacancies that the next round of layoffs would bring.
Does this apply to Nebraska?
