Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

Wireless side of the house needs a union

I've heard all of the anti union stuff but we need to get in sync with the wireline guys, how many more things will we let them take from us, we have a 46% EBITA and we are the largest wireless carrier in the US and we're getting laid off????

Sprint lost 56 million dollars this quarter. WTF

It's time to turn the tables

The 'wireless side of the house' is young enough to not be lured into a blue-collar pyramid scheme under the guise of union safety.

If the company believes the wireless side is trying to join the union... they will shut down centers even faster than they have already planned

Verizon is a business and it needs to reduce operating expenses. The wireless side has been coaxed to be anti union. You even mention the word union at a verizon wireless call center you will end up in a meeting with hr and your senior manager. Vendor centers are cheaper ....plain and simple. Technology is changing and people are coaxed to do everything online. Reps are simply not needed. Just prepare yourselves for a future with another job. Manage your own bottom line..so when it is your turn on the chopping block... you will already be prepared.

You are getting laid off because you are not needed, plain and simple. Union will just keep people around who are not needed. If you were needed, do you think you would be riffed? I am in wireless and work with wireline folks. The number of worthless wireline employees astounds me. In my dept, we get twice the amount of work done with half the people and our stuff actually works rather than needing to be constantly fixed.

Verizon wireless does have a union in New York City. CWA 1101. And some union members were just laid off. Landline side definitely has a stronger union than wireless.

When Management takes you into one of those closed door coaching sessions when there's 2 of them and 1of you.with a union you have a union "shop steward " In the same room, their combined frontal assault is not as bad because your working under a union contract so you the worker have some protection in the workplace. Also.the " You sign this" document will be recommended by your Union witness not too sign, while Mgmt will usually intimidate you too sign. It just a little protection for you.
