Hearing from vendors that a large number of Kansas City stores are being closed. Anybody hear anything?

The AAP purchase of CARQUEST was a commercial sales windfall for the commercial competitors. O’Reillys and NAPA particularly had large sales increases. The Sloan family ran a great company. When they realized they could not perpetuate the internal stock program long term, it became evident a sale would be necessary to fund the payout to all of the employee shareholders. As a former shareholder, I would like to thank the AAP folks for funding my dream. You bought something that you had no idea what to do with... but thanks again.... s---ers!

Someone should be writing a book on how to totally destroy an Auto Parts Supplier chain in two years!

CARQUEST was at one time a respectable company with a great reputation among large commercial customers and government accounts. Now it is a footnote in the history books thanks to AAP’s top management team! Would you believe me if I told you this was the master plan all along?

I was told this was the plan from the very beginning when CARQUEST was purchased although at that time it was hard for me to believe. Who would spend that kind of money on a large scale national parts business just to close it down?

I agree. Using the term “dissolve” instead of consolidate is a better description. At this point everyone knows that consolidating CARQUEST locations into AAP stores is a waste of money. The CQ customers and employees all leave for better options with the competition. And let’s not forget that stellar regional management team that remains clueless.

Chatter at corporate is store consolidations and elimination of the CAM position by year end. ROI on CAMs is not there... money better spent on retail/online initiatives. Stores losing money to be closed or consolidated. Most CQ locations dissolved as their leases expire.

The independent side can really keep a secret. Those independent CQ store owners have no idea what is coming.

All of the CQ people will be gone when the stores shut down. McBobo has no use for them.

CQ locations will be shut down nationwide as leases expire. This will help fund growth of new AAP locations that is currently being touted as the latest and greatest growth initiatives.

No surprise these predictions continue to come true. Just look at the management team.... very weak when it comes to ability, attaining goals, and garnering any level of respect from those in the stores. Only salvation may be the faceless DIY online sales that continue to alienate commercial business.

Well, well, well...many of the items within this post are coming true. Gotta wonder who the lead contributor is. Apparently in the know.

Worst leader ever in KC. Should have kept Torres that had great people skills. McBoBo should be in a cubicle at K-Mart corporate.

The KC group continues to crumble due to the turnover and overall lack of confidence of the team members. McBobo at the wheel is a joke. Somebody should have cut the circuit City flunky a long time ago. Even the CSM is leaving and he can kiss a$$ better than anyone!
