First round of notifications were the end of last week. Some were told they had been "effected" and had 6 months to make the move. Next round of notifications are supposed to be in July and then the final round in December. My wife wasn't notified about anything to do with her job. There was also no rhyme or reason to the notifications. There was no one department or division targeted. It was not only long-timers or newbies. Absolutely no pattern. A supervisor said he had no idea what management's reasoning was for this round of notifications.

Relocation is at your expense if you are not asked to move. The people in the Direct Business moved from Tampa to NC 2 yrs ago to be told today the whole department is being shut down. Not worth it.

That's what she's afraid of. A couple of people have already moved too. No word for my wife yet unfortunately. It's driving her absolutely nuts.

Hate to tell you “waiting husband” but I had several friends at MetLife who were told their jobs were moving, then low and behold, only some moved and others were layed off.... then still others had to re-apply but were either not rehired, or were rehired only to be laid off after picking up and moving south.

@waiting husband - Is this an IT job? If so, you'll have to ask Marty Lippert. After announcing that there WOULD be moves, he declined to give specifics.

** The only reason I can think to do that is to try to cause people to quit. Bad move - they'll lose the best and brightest.

**BTW: If you can say without giving yourself away - which building?

we just want to know if my wife's job is moving to NC or Tampa and when...they told us almost 3 months ago that they were moving the entire building south, but didn't give us any details at all. Just said we had to wait until after the 1st of the year and then they would tell us more. Rumor also has it that we will have to re-interview for our own job!

It's pretty sad that governments end up bidding against each other to buy jobs. It ought to be illegal to give these kinds of tax breaks.

In the end, the tax burden falls on the people who pay taxes to subsidize corporations.

I suppose it wouldn't be so bad if it actually created new, long duration jobs. But here, most of these jobs will be moved at the expense of other MetLife locations.

Plus, it's an opportunity to dispose of some folks that for various reasons can't or won't move.
