Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

Change is on the horizon

GE digital company - not. That train left the station a decade ago. With the power houses in the digital today, GE has a better chance at being a global breakfast cereal maker. Face it, wishful thinking doesn't pay squat.

Effective manager of change - hardly. 10years with the company and the only thing that changes is management, every 12-18 months.

Over priced , over rated, the competition ate our lunch yesterday and we are looking for a fork.

As a 10+ yr engineer with some work exp under my belt I'll gladly say good riddance. Stop the bull mess and run the company like it's a competitive global economy and not some political puppet show.

I've watched many shops close during my time with GE. Sad, painful, and the only person that looked out for me is me.

Get out now while the market is good and other companies are hiring. Putting in my notice this Friday !

Obviously GE doesn't understand Information Technology or Digital Technology in general. They sold off GE Information Services, which was renamed GXS. Guess what, GXS are in the market that GE Digital wants to play in now.

Also if you look around, and the businesses that GE owns, but holds at arms length operate well (Unison, CFM, etc) So to me that just proves that GE's touted management is a detriment than an asset.

The big companies getting into digital now have missed the window of opportunity. The big players have already carved out their pieces of the pie. I believe, if you are doing digital, then join a start up where you can grow fast, make your mark. These big ships take way too long to turn.

I worked at several software companies and it easy to see GE Digital will not make it. But Flannerty is betting all of GE on it. He is right that Big data and IIOT are the future of IT. The executives and much of upper management are not equiped to handle this task. GE is created this culture of branding, s---ing up for promotions and buddy system. I believe they would better served to keep transportation. Partner with smaller succesfull digital company and keep it to support industrials. I work at digital and am positive GE Digital won't survive dragging the rest of the company down. Good companies can live with smaller margins and grow and be succesfull. Selling GE Appliances, Lightning, Water shows the don't want to be instrial company because that is to hard for them. We should look at how Cat turned things around in bad times. Funny it looks like Cat may be interested in buying transportation.
