Wishing all my former colleagues good luck tomorrow as you learn if you will be laid off. There is life after GE. Stay strong. Head high. Don’t take it personally. I got through it and you can too. And if you are not laid off but your colleague or friend is, please be compassionate. It’s a feeling you never want to experience, but it will make you a better person if you all act professionally no matter which end of the stick you get.

Nice post! I was laid off myself last March and it turned out to be a good thing. Got a better job and do not have to deal with the bloated management no nothings anymore. You guys in E-band that get hit will have a harder time in the real world. Your Crotonville training does not count for much in the real world. My advice is use all the benefits coming to you and do not waste your time doing anything for the company on your notice time. Use the time getting your resume, LinkedIn, and network updated so you can hit the new year hard looking for the next opportunity. One other thing do not waste time applying for jobs within GE. GE got rid of you because you are probably an older experienced well paid employee, they have no interest to put you back on the payroll.
Nice post - wise words.
No matter what ... always have a plan B, keep your resume updated and occasionally apply for an external job to test the market
