Good post @acjf
Just be glad if no one buys it. At least people will get the LR package. With a "half-complete products that no-one wants", it just means the acquiring company will unload without any compensation after acquiring the unit(s). No media will report that and no 'LR' in Cisco news. That's the way how the games are played... Silent reduction with no compensation... :)
You missed:
Fill vacant management positions with people whose recent success was running Seachange into the ground.
@ @R0PmmU6-acjf... you hit the nail right on the head! Brilliant observation, seriously!
Since when SPVSS has good sales? - NDS in 2012 had good revenues and profits. You can speculate whether it was worth anything like $5bn, and whether it was about to become a declining business without Cisco's help, but the acquisition did several things to bring about a rapid decline:
-
focus the ex NDS and Cisco management on a fast integration, rather than keeping the business strong
-
axe the new projects that would have been the proving ground for the latest technology and destroy NDS' reputation for delivering on projects, based on a short-term view of the new project revenues.
-
fail to implement a strategy to resolve overlaps and allow ongoing competition over which products should go forward
-
lose all the ex-NDS senior management that understood the business, the market, and had the important relationships with the customers.
-
then focus investment on ideas without any real market traction, forcing a culture shift from highly-customised solutions that the customers wanted to half-complete products that no-one wants.
-
oh, and along the way, keep hacking away steadily at the workforce to make sure that expertise is lost, effort wasted on implementing the workforce reductions and the consequent re-organisations, and that morale is minimised.
I hope for the remaining staff that the buyer(s) has/have a better approach to running a company than Cisco.
@R0PmmU6-aezf Where were you to advise Chambers when he was blowing the $5bn!
I must admit when I heard on that fateful day back in 2012 that Cisco was buying NDS, the first thing that entered my head was "what here is worth that much money?".
I just couldn't see it - but I wrongly assumed it was my lack of business knowledge.
A COMCAST purchase would be the kiss of death. Only thing worse would be VERIZON.
The vanity of it. Apart from smart cards what’s else is there to buy ?
I’d be surprised if it were just one single buyer - what does Comcast want with the satellite tech, or BsB with X1 stuff? It will be sold in parts
So our rumors include;
-
Rovi/ TiVo
-
Comcast
-
bSkyb
-
status quo
Anything else?
TiVo / Rovi. And before anyone asks, yes, it affects Lawrenceville
Any news???? Who will be the happy company that will get us??
So he valued each NDS employee at $1 million dollars - this guy is a business genius!
Chambers US$5,000,000,000 (US$5Billion!) folly! After the purchase closed, Cisco exec's came to 'lead' and left because of failure, while other senior exec's refused to take it on (claimed 'personal time off for family'... Regardless of the enormous funds in Cisco's 'bank' at the time, the felony stupid NDS buy/failure was never addressed head-on by the shareholders or board of directors. Think about it, $5Billion...
“Revenue decline would of been a lot greater if we weren’t in charge “ . Brilliant spin as it is impossible to prove. Trebles all round
The spvss booth at CES will help build hundreds of dolllars of pipeline.
Haven’t you seen the size of the SPVSS pipeline? If we bring in a 1/3 of that , Rodney, we will be trillionaires !
Since when SPVSS has good sales?
SPVSS do have some good engineers, and sales folks. Problem is no clue about the future, roadmaps, and vision. devops or ci-cd is not going to convince regulated operators to buy a half cooked product.
It may not be sold. Depends on how much other software sales are in the SP group.

Well @R0PmmU6-yco is in contention with that $25 bid.
Who will buy us???
let's hope to get some good news
Will know by mid January.
25$
also I don't
Great idea, I'll start the bidding $10 - and it feels over priced at that.
don't know
