Wage rises given to graduates in the uk

Ok. You couldn't make this stuff up! I have just been informed that many of the graduate employees on our site in the UK have just received wage rises ranging from £3000 to $8000 pa. Whilst I myself am yet again in a redundancy pool because DXC needs to save money! How can DXC justify increasing the salaries of graduates with, let's face it, limited skills in anything the slightest bit useful whilst at the same time dumping skilled hard working employees?

The good news is that once the Grads reach their 5 year Anniversary at DXC then they are likely to get the chop and are in line to be replaced by the latest Grads. Who wins? ML's pension fund.

TheBorg, if you actually has spoken to a grad in your life I'm sure you'd actually find they have a relatively normal experience level for people just out of university and are happily willing to identify areas they need to improve in. I haven't worked with a single grad who thinks they are top dog.

I was never a grad, started in mainframe ops as a trainee operator and worked my way to Architect over my career. The grads arrive, have smoke blown up their arse by equally unqualified managers and think they know better when in fact they know jack sh-- !

I cannot begrudge the grads of their rise. I imagine they are on peanuts at the moment.

The good grads will move on when they get that enterprise experience, as they should move on.

Uk grad = highcost location, best shore wages

On what basis are grads heads overinflated?

I have forgotten more about IT then most of the grads will ever squeeze into their overinflated heads !

All companies sh*t on the older staff, and all grads think that it won't happen to them when they get older :)

  • Astounding that the people annoyed at graduates aren't also moaning about contractors. Contractors are often making 4x or more what graduates make and are equally as skilled (or underskilled depending on your viewpoint).

  • The graduates were given a salary increase because they are no longer graduates and this increase was promised to occur from day dot. It just so happens it falls at the same time as WFM, but when in the year would that not be true?

  • If you are so concerned about salary, why would you choose to work at a company that generally doesn't give them out? A company that also generally does not provide training, or much in the way of job security? Instead of moaning, just leave.

When I worked at Lytham I was told the average age was 45 and average salary £47K. By moving to Newcastle the intention was to bring average age down to 25 and average salary to £27k.

I was earning £27k as a programmer in 1998.

Grads may think they are doing well and older staff might be annoyed that they are getting rises but the realty Is the Grads are being exploited.

Generalising and saying all/most grads are useless is pretty shocking since you have probably only ever spoken to a few. Maybe your terrible attitude is why you don't deserve a raise and they would rather get rid of you?

Just a thought :) Good lucky being miserable while we spend our well earned extra cash!

If its true, enjoy it while you can. That's it, you have hit your wage ceiling in DXC and now are in the same boat as everyone else.... well except that you are paid far less still than anyone with any experience.

Cheer up though, think of the money you'll save by having to live with mummy and daddy for your entire life.

I think DXC are trying to keep the grads sweets because, after all, they are supposed to replace the skilled workers which are either leaving by their own accord ('cos DXC s---s) or are being culled with the compulsory redundancies. The grads themselves are also leaving in droves which leaves nobody to fill the roles which are being slashed. Some of the grads are actually quite good, however the majority are completely f@cking useless. We have graduate project managers and they are a complete joke. No experience of anything that is meaningful to progressing a successful project. It seems the 'Graduate Power' is part of the seemingly planned downward spiral which is core to the value of this frankenfirm company. Obviously people are getting rich off this DXC disaster and bunging the inept and 'wet behind the ears' young ones a few quid is a planned expense which will drag the company along for a year or two. Of course losing more contracts along the way because of the ineptitude of the so called skilled grads. What a f@cking joke.
