Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Full Timers

Full time associates are done in this company and All assistant management gone as well. A package or take a pay cut. A big pay cut. Happening after meetings on Tuesday. Good luck to all the full timers and may luck be granted to the stores being run by part timers.

With all the store closings the districts are getting smaller so they will in the next few months get rid of some market managers and other DM's and consolodate each district to a region. Most DM's are now monitoring stores by iphone so they dont physically have to go to the store and the AP's will cover multiple stores and the market managers will be cut also

I hear that AP and LP are next. Any word on this? I also heard that the DM's will visit stores in the next week to sit with those affected and give the bad news. True?

Hah, while we haven't lost any FTs yet, our muppet of a DM wants to further micromanage the stores, dictating the exact schedules for certain FT positions. While the schedule they set is actually a pretty good one under normal circumstances, it is entirely impractical given the actual needs of the store. All of our FTs in the affected positions are key carriers, meaning they were supposed to be available to open and close, and the schedule demanded now rules that out entirely, so we're down to two or three people (SM included) available in any given week to open and close the store.

Does anyone know of any cuts today in the Kmart stores?

@iqqb No it isn't right, but the sales aren't there anymore probably to warrant as many full time positions. The problem is just that these monstrous stores now do very small sales. If we had smaller stores, this wouldn't be unheard of at all. The physical size of the stores makes it tough when the sales are so small.

Good luck to all Kmart full time associates. It’s so wrong the way you all are being cheated!

I still say the full time associates who have busted their butts for this company are NOT the problem!!

It’s the layers and layers of management above store manager level starting with the overpaid District Managers and Regional Managers! I’m sure their responsibilities never get increased with less hours to complete them

This is all about benefits. The company does not want to and can’t afford to pay full timers benefits so they are slashing all of them and will make the associates re apply for the 5 or 6 FT positions that will be available with in your store. This is company wide no matter of your stores “profitability”. Take the package and leave the company if your tenured it’s a lost cause. ASMs will be let go as well. Friday is the day when your SGM will know the full list in the IBO. Good luck to all.

Check your pay, you will know before you walk into your building.

If the is a check # issued instead of the normal way of your deposit, expect to be terminated.

Pay day is not until Friday but there is a check that is dated 1-09..... safe to say that My position is one of those chosen during this round of cuts. I am a softlines ASM.

If you have a work ethic like myself there is a sense of relief that came with “finding” this information. The lack of resources and lack of decent associates have made my job over the last few years nearly impossible to truly enjoy.

I will also add that my store is well above that bottom line, we are making money.

Good luck everyone, and remember - everything will be ok!!!!!

SHC Stock closed at $3.13 today, Interesting to watch Eddie's plan come to fruition. For those of you who remain employed at SHC, why do you stay? Why are you not pursuing other employment?

I have heard some employees say, "I am going to wait and see." Wait and see what? SHC's debt is considerably more than its assets. WHAT DO YOU THINK IS GOING TO HAPPEN NEXT

Yes there are cuts but it depends on your stores profit. My store received no cuts this time. So it all depends on that. Meeting was very quick since I had no cuts to make. Other stores had to stay to go over theirs

Does anyone really know wha happened at this meeting for Kmart managers? I guess time will only tell. I think after the SM meeting last January, it took a week before the store was told of individual layoffs.

It's hard coming in to work with the not knowing. Stress unbearable. Sorry, I do love my job here at Kmart and that's all on me, but don't knock it. If I'm not safe all I need to hear is truth and not all this nasty negative crap on here. Drama makers will meet their own karma.

Now that I think about it, even with SM and both supervisors, it would be rather difficult to work out anything resembling a reasonable schedule for opening and closing seven days a week. That's 14 shifts to fill between three people, two of whom will not likely do more than 5 days a week each. I guess if the SM works six or seven days a week, that leaves room for just 2-3 midday shifts, and almost zero room for any of them to ever take personal days or vacation. Fun stuff.

Can part timers even BE key carriers?

It doesn't seem that infeasible. We lost more full timers at about this time last year than even remain in total now. Given the behavior of our clown of a DM, I wouldn't put it past him to believe stores can really run on one SM and two supervisors. Our store only has one supervisor position filled though, and no FTs would likely stick around to take the other one, knowing as they already do how much BS they have to put up with with as many FTs we still do have. (1 ASM and less than half a dozen other FT?) So that means the SM and lone supervisor will each have to work seven day weeks, one opening and the other closing, with no lunch breaks as there will never be overlap except perhaps maybe an hour between their shifts. Sounds like fun. As for me, it looks like Target's hiring, and no matter how much griping I see in their thelayoff.com page, it can't be worse than Kmart. Starting pay is more than I make after over a decade here too, so that's a bonus.

Cheap labor - cheap service - dead company

I wonder if that means they will try to override part timers availability to push to max of 39.5 hrs siting company demands but they will be slick on this tooand make you go a few weeks with no hours so you don’t accrue vacation time in case store is still open in 2019

Cheap labor no benefits

Sounds about right
