Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

How hard is it to find another job for those over 50?

My mom was laid off and she is feeling miserable right now. I'm trying to figure out how to help her, but frankly, I don't think I can do much in the next few days until the first shock passes.

What I was wondering is if anybody knows how hard it is to find another job in this field? She has a few more years until retirement, and I don't know how she'll cope if she can't find a job.

It'd be nice to be able to honestly tell her there's hope when it comes to that.

Thank you all for answers, positive and cautionary. At least I have something I can tell her now. Good luck to all of you, I hope things get better soon.

I was impacted in November. I an in my late 50's. I was a PHC for over three years. I have had several interviews and two offers. It is a little more difficult at this age.. but, I have 4 interviews lined up and I have been networking with past co workers. . tell her to hang in there and just work on getting a job a few hours a day and she will find one!!! good luck to her!!! and all others.

I was out of work for nearly a year, after working for Humana for 2 years. I am over 50, and it was a year of hell. Sorry, I wish I had better news for you, but WAH jobs are not a dime a dozen, and I hope you have your CCM, because that will be your only leg-up if you want to get a telephonic CM job.

Have any of the nurses thought about teaching? I know my local technical college is often looking for experienced BSNs and MSNs to teach ASN courses. Dont have to be a teacher to teach at a tech

It isn't as difficult any more due. An old co-worker of mine just found a new job at 63. She is WAH for another insurance co.

I am in my 60's: tell your mom to get her resume updated 1st and try home health THEY always have open positions or work at doctors office or try ALF there are lots of options and her being in her 50's is not an issue

I will also admit with some shame that I don't know what her exact position at Humana was.
