No one is safe in Macys. or retail for that matter...If you're thinking of staying get your resume together. They put brand new departments like Elizabeth Arden, Benefit bar, and Impulse, new customer service Starbucks, Sunglass hut. Then out of the blue eliminated the Taste Bar. All in a day people lost their jobs while the HR manager was quivering having to hand out severances before HER last day! what a joke. Hey it makes sense... not enough customers came through. The managers are asleep at the wheel. The quality of Macy's Brand clothing has gone downhill in last ten years. They need to step up the quality and not so much the quantity. Or why else would anyone want to step foot inside Macys when you could get the same crap at Target or Wallmart?

The company has the stores broken into 3 categories.

TOP 50 - Which is basically the most important store in each metropolitan area. Those will always be safe, along with their Flagship category

TOP 242 - (which includes the Top 50) These are mostly safe because the company would be crippled if these closed. This is the ideal the company wants to get to in 2020, and to eliminate their over saturation

CORE 302 - Then there are the balance of stores in this group..... your days are numbered... once they sell your building or you lease comes up... nice knowing you....

One more thing, if your store is not in any one of these categories, you will be shuttered within the year

My store got a Market at macys section, there is a small Backstage section lower level in the back, soon to have a Starbucks, getting new lighting now, section being developed for online pickup/customer service too. Seems like good signs that we are safe. We are a top 50 store. Although for the past 6 mos I havent seen that many customers, its strange.

Writing is on the wall people. Backstage is the future of Macy’s!!! The more they bring in, more 4 wall doors will close. My store has a Backstage and we are starting to receive televisions and I heard some larger “appliances” are expected in the future. So my first thought was eventually the entire store will be converted a free standing Backstage store. It’s happening people. Wake up. I also want to wait for a severance but then again, what if they stop offering severances. Regardless, it’s business and definitely more Backstages equals less Macy’s stores.

Just because they add backstage or remodel your store does not mean your safe. My store in 2017 was remodeled calling it "Store of the Future". The company spent over $1 million dollars doing all the new ideas Ex. Central Checkout, At Macys BOPS/Returns Center and much more. Guess what happened to us on January 6? Yes were closing in MARCH!

You people just don't understand! They already budgeted and committed to bring in Backstage and a lot more ; but if Macys shares continue to drop and they will it doesn't matter what they bring in the store to make money. The major share holders are not making money . They control the company and will commission the Board of Directors at Macys to do whatever it takes to bring the stock up. If that means closing stores selling off buildings that they own they will do it. Brick and Mortor is dead it's just a matter of time before they close. The only store that is safe is Herald Square. It's not spreading rumors or fear it's Reality!

I was in a store where they spent mega bucks bringing in more bandwidth and adding shops......they ate closing it this year. I do believe there are going to be more closures, my VPSM stated this. Many more. She believes they are doing this to be acquired by an investment firm.

No haven’t heard this...don’t take things as the gospel on this site. We are getting a Backstage store put in this summer and we are under 25 mil in Texas. Why would we get a Backstage in 2018 and close in 2020? People just stirring up trouble and fear.
