For all of you folks who missed the memo, CA was explicit and we should acknowledge this: layoffs are coming. Based on what he communicated, things are about to unravel quickly and it will be a short sharp shock for the org. If you've been with Qualcomm for a while, you know how painful these things can be - so let's see how do they manage this one...

If 1K~2.k is what they are planning, how will they meet 1bil numbers. Are people supposed to being their own stationery, geo shifting , work from starbucks , reduce water consumption by closing restrooms ?
Note, the previous layoff that occurred [2015] was very wishy washy. Poor management. As a then stock holder tried to understand all the news out during that time, it was never clear if they accomplished what was recommended by Jana partners at that time. Same will happen this time, highly likely.
I'm certain there will be some layoffs, but nothing like what some people here are suggesting. 1k-2.5k would seem plausible, but more seems unlikely. Layoffs are not the only cost reductions they are making.
Moreover, the company seems well-positioned for growth, especially once we pull in NXP.
One thing for sure, CA will make sure his brother's job is safe

We will see how things play out but 4k or even 3k in SD is a major stretch...
Anyhow, I like the fact that this round will be a swift one, the sooner we close this episode, the better everyone will be.
Also remember, QC has always been a generous company, so folks being cut will not leave with nothing - I know that the management always milks the max benefits and perks, but overall I think that they are taking a decent care of the average worker.
I hope it will not be as bad as many predict

$1B is around 4k employees with overhead. Low-cost regions will logically pick up more work so the majority has to be in SD. It's not enough to change travel policies (which might save $8 to $10m). Eliminating sodas might save $50k.
Murthy left his stains and now planting it in Intel thankfully, they will find out especially that he took the circle that keeps hiding the truth (remember Abhe and the 8994) . Cristiano did so well like a true leader today and it is a fight and we are behind him. NXP first Broadcomm next Apple last and we will win in a big way.

Kudos to Christiano in answering some tough questions today. I know it comes with the job description, to take responsibility and lead from the front, and keep the employee well informed. But, as we know, some executives has not been doing that.
Christiano handled this well, and of the execs he is the best. However, make no mistake, this sounds like a bloodbath in the 30% range for San Diego. I guess low-cost regions will have less impact. God be with us all. Keep things in perspective.
