Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

How Is Sedgwick Claims Working Out For You?

The shyster insurance company that replaced Met Life and has a P.O Box as a Corporate address! Is well known in the industry as being the absolute worst company to deal with, that's if you can even reach them! I'm waiting for the horror stories to start appearing and believe me they will.

Make no mistake this was a calculated move by Verizon.

Complex tear of meniscus here. 26 yrs of service and denied a simple outpatient surgery. Without going into detail, they purposely orchestrate denial and misinformation. They are preying on the psyche of injured workers in hopes that you will mentally break and voluntarily leave the job before your time. Saving the company tons of money. Get yourself a good lawyer and hold on for a insanely despicable ride through their twisted algorithm. Keep in mind the man behind the curtain is your employer and they are just a mouthpiece for them. Big corp, billions of revenue each quarter. Ceo getting tens of millions in bonus. And the face of the company, the ones who built it over decades are disrespected and never appreciated. I just want to get my necessary medical treatment and go back to the job I'm proud to do.

I broke my hand and walmart made me go through sedgwick. I got all the paperwork filled out sent in. Weeks go by they denied my claim so I call the number on the claim paperwork was put on hold for 90 min a lady finally answered I ask why I was denied she tells me to call another number because she couldn't help me. I decide start another claim sent in the same paperwork and messaged them that I didn't understand why they denied me. And like magic they approved the first claim and I went back to work. Then the second claim I opened with the same paperwork was denied.. I sent multiple messages no reply two months of dealing with this cr-p havent been scheduled at work for over a month because sedgwick is kicking me off the schedule. So I sent a few angry messages don't think that helped but this cr-p company is driving me crazy. People shouldn't have to deal with things like this especially when your sick or injured walmart should be ashamed of making employees jump through hoops dealing with an awful company like sedgwick. I'm sure this annoying situation is going to become a bigger issue for me shortly..

I have been dealing with this company since January 2021 because an AT&T driver hit my vehicle and caused damage and they told me this month that they will not pay for the damage. The claims agent Emily Hall is horrible and needs to find another job. She never responded until to deny my claim.

Got injured at work , my company uses Sedgwick. Long story short had to have knee surgery was just in the recovery stage and the case manager for Sedgwick kept calling me to talk about going back light duty for two months.

I went back to see my Doctor and he put me on light duty , therfore Sedgwick would not have to pay me weekly anymore .The very next day Sedgwick called my manager and they manipulated my work status and said I am now on full duty WTF!! My knee was just recovering from surgery . Sedgwick and the big box companies that deal with them are monsters!! They will do everything they can to break you down . It's all about the Dollar !! It's a slave mentality!! Horrible!!

Management employee here. I was completely disabled and in the hospital for 7 days + 3 days recovery at home. Earlier in the year, I had consumed all of my sick leave, so I needed to use STD for my time away. I filed with Sedgwick the moment I was allowed to return to work.

Sedgwick altered my claim so that it continued to appear as though I had NOT yet returned to work (despite being informed that I had and was given the date I returned). They also asked for me to provide some really basic medical provider information that they themselves could have obtained. It looked like a stall tactic. They didn't seem equipped to handle a claim which had already began and ended the moment it was submitted. I've provided all requested information (except now they're asking for medical records to verify that I'm still not able to, get this: return to work). Though all of this and two weeks after, I'm still not able to submit a normal timesheet (their claims process locks me out).

It is very likely that when Sedgwick suddenly get my claim right and figures out I've returned to work long ago, they'll stop locking me out of submitting my timesheet and now I'll suddenly have two weeks with 0 hours on the next payday. So I'm very very concerned right now. I'm also concerned about paying the bills after being forced to engage with Sedgwick, and I'm completely following company policy and with an entirely valid medical claim.

I was injured around 3:30am-3:50am during graveyard and immediately went to the supervisor's office to report the incident. He wasn't at his desk and since day shift arrives at 5am for startup, I returned to the supervisor's office rather quickly so that I could assist with the startup and perform my duties. The initial back and forth with the company's safety person was unpleasant to say the least, but it's Sedgwick's handling of my claim is the reason for this post. From the start I have been ignored, hassled, ridiculed, insulated and deceived by the claim manager and the nurse advocate assigned to my claim. Not only am I unable to get a timely response to an inquiry but Sedgwick chooses to ignore the medical provider as well as the state agency monitoring their performance or lack of. It's been over 2 months since my cervical sprain/concussion diagnosis and my claim hasn't been approved! My previously scheduled appointment was cancelled by the provider for the simple fact that Sedgwick refused to answer calls, e-mails and left messages unanswered, leaving my provider holding the proverbial bag. The last activity prescription form (work restriction) was due to expire and when I mentioned this to Sedgwick, they assured me the benefits would continue since none of this is my fault. Yup. Benefits ended. They also told the state agency my benefit payments would continue. Since then I have seen 3 different payment dates post and disappear without ever receiving anything! ALL previous payments have been via direct deposit and after Sedgwick received a call from the state, a scheduled payment date has maintained it's presence but for whatever reason they are choosing to mail a check instead of utilizing direct deposit! I verified the accuracy of my banking information and the status on the website shows 'active' therefore I am a little confused about the need to mail a check. One morning I actually spoke with the claims adjuster, manager, representative and inquired about the status of my claim. In an elevated and accusatory tone, I was told the delay was my fault because I haven't been forthcoming with information, that I was withholding medical records from them. She continued to say I was being deceptive and she believes I was being less than truthful and in her opinion, I was outright lying to her! I am now in the process of filing a formal complaint and needless to say, Sedgwick is not at all concerned with the condition of an injured worker! They have now asked for a 30 day extension to which I'm whole heartedly opposed to

You arose a thread from the dead Thor 😀 @iphab+RTLDzyg.
My experience with them, as a non-abuser of the system, was unpleasant as well.
It seemed, IMHO, to be an orchestrated, “purposefully” bungled, handling of the claims process, or total, all-encompassing, incompetence.

If you get a claim approved, the money to pay it comes from YOUR company, even though the check is issued by Sedgwick. Sedgwick does NOT have a direct financial stake in approving or denying any claim — the money to pay the claim doesn’t come from Sedgwick, it comes from AT&T or Verizon or whoever hired Sedgwick.

Because of this, the courts consider Sedgwick to be an unbiased third party who makes fair decisions. The courts see Sedgwick as fully impartial because approving or denying claims doesn’t have any effect on how much Sedgwick earns.

Sedgwick would literally be paid the same amount by Verizon if they approved 0% of employee claims or 100%. So, therefore, the courts recognize them as fully impartial and fair decision makers.

However, it doesn’t take a genius to read between the lines. If Sedgwick approved 100% of Verizon claims, they would still make the same money (and it’s in the millions) from Verizon for handling the account. But what do you want to bet that next year, when the contract expired, Verizon might decide to renegotiate and pay Sedgwick less money — or dump Sedgwick altogether?

But the law does not see it this way, hence why your company hires Sedgwick in the first place.

Believe it or not, you guys are some of the lucky ones. As others have pointed out, Sedgwick is basically enforcing the plan YOUR employer gives them. And the Verizon plan is not that bad.

True, the examiners are still not going to ever answer their phones, but it really want to see some bad employee plans google Sedgwick CMS + one of these other companies (AT&T, Comcast, Walmart, or Amazon).

The horror stories of what AT&T asks Sedgwick to do to their employees would astound you. (Because despite being the decision maker, the real decision comes from YOUR company. They give Sedgwick detailed instructions of how to handle their claims. Sedgwick is basically the executioner — but your company is the guy who hired the hit.)

Verizon is actually SIGNIFICANTLY better to their employees than most of the other companies. Your executives actually go to bat with Sedgwick on a number of things, and far more Verizon claims appear to get approved than most other companies. Also, the Verizon execs actually meet with Sedgwick regularly to pass along employee complaints and demand better service. For example, Verizon is not happy the Sedgwick examiners aren’t returning calls and they’re demanding their employees get better service.

Becauer me tell you a little secret. If you work for, say, Monsanto or Merck or Google and you call Sedgwick the examiners answer the phone and return calls. Claims are quickly approved, because those companies demand it for their employees and they write plans that are fair and allow claimants to get good service and reasonable approvals.

Other companies either don’t care, or perhaps even encourage Sedgwick to behave the way they do.

Sedgwick has 21,000 employees and you are literally speaking with an entirely different department based off who you work for.

The experience an employee has with Sedgwick is basically the experience YOUR COMPANY has hired Sedgwick to give them.

Sedgwick is the claims administrator for nearly every major corporation in the USA, from Target to Kroger to Trump Tower to the Board of Education to The LDS Church to the NFL to Lockheed Martin. It’s not a coincidence that the people who despise Sedgwick work for a select handful of companies...your claim is decided based entirely on STRICT and specific rules YOUR company made up. Sedgwick is seriously just the hired gun.

More people need to realie this, because if they knew who the true villain was (the company that hired Sedgwick) things actually might start to change. Companies hide behind Sedgwick, and Sedgwick takes all the heat for decisions that are 100% based on following orders from the employer.

For what it’s with, Verizon is one of the better ones.

Internet consensus is that Sedgwick is a claim denial specialist, which is a plan administrator designed to save their client (the company, not you) money. I wish I remembered the switchover to them, I would have reduced plan levels or gone elsewhere.

What people don't understand is their employer (Verizon, Walmart, ect.) makes these rules and pays Sedgwick to follow these rules. If a claim is denied, it is because Verizon told them what expectations need to be met in order for it to be approved. It's a third party administrator, your employer pays them to inforce the rules that they make. Sedgwick doesn't do anything wrong, they are just doing what your employer tells them to do.

1/3/19

I am 38 weeks pregnant, and apparently the date I've selected to be my last day of work (January 12th) is not acceptable as my due date is January 15th.

I don't know if we have to use Sedgwick for short term disability first or if we can use our maternity leave then the STD.

It's been very frustrating working with Sedgwick over the last few months. They don't seem to be the most polished group of professionals, there's too much misinformation across too many channels.

"Sedgwick Claims Management Services Inc. has agreed to pay a $1.13 million settlement to the California Division of Workers' Compensation for utilization review procedures the state said violated California workers comp law.

The workers comp department assessed Sedgwick in August with 75 administrative penalties related to utilization review, according to department filings. They alleged failures to respond to authorization requests from doctors treating injured workers and comply with a California requirement that only licensed physicians can modify, delay or deny requests for authorization of medical treatment."
