Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

My only regret is...

I'm 55 and started looking for a job outside of State Farm in August when the "Transformation" was first announced. I saw the writing on the wall then. In October another company, a leader in their respective industry, contacted me and brought me through the interview process and offered me a job in December! I start with them next week and can't tell you how excited I am. I'm excited to start a new adventure far from Bloomington, IL and excited to leave SF behind. I know State Farm will survive, but the next 3-5 years in this company are going to be miserable. I can't wait for Michael Tipsord to look over at Duane Farrington in October and say "Duane, why aren't we delivering anything?"

My only regret is that I couldn't time my new offer with a severance. But, I have a paycheck and with a great company and not looking back! Good luck to all my friends that "made the cut" and to those who'll move on. I have all in the confidence in their abilities and know they'll succeed.

"My job got axed, Ed Rust Jr > Michael Tipsord, 'it ain't like the old days', bring back my regional office"- (eating popcorn) these rants are always HILARIOUS to read.

Congratulations on finding a job at another company- if you're still in the insurance business however and you're NOT at State Farm then, well, "there be monsters" sir LOL. Literally HALF of the people I know that left us 'cause we are SO bad' have tried coming back- some successfully. #GrassGreener My friend's wife (IWU grad, minority, bilingual) left a management job here in December- now seven months later she's already scrambling to find another new employer.

State Farm is an insurance company who's ONLY responsibility is to its policyholders in paying claims. It is not assumed, written, stated, or guaranteed that State Farm employs every man woman and child to the bitter end no matter how 'bad for business' your job has become. To think that way would make you 'delusional' and childish. If you were treated unfairly then you should have sought-out an HR rep, the courts are at your disposal. End of the day, man-up or shut-up.

State Farm isn't Social Security. Stop thinking like entitled @sshats! Let me tell you, policyholders will NOT keep subsidizing 6 figure salaries for 'group-slouching'. Every department has had to undergo NECESSARY CHANGE, you aren't the first and you won't be the last. Just because you know COBAL, or went to IWU, or 'your great great grandad Otto settled this area' does not make you immune to self-preservation, hard work, learning new things, and a 'can-do' spirit. Take after Otto lol, although who the he-l would want to settle here is beyond me and maybe the apple didn't fall far from the tree of inherited delusionality? Food for thought. Verstehen mich? lol

SO much entitlement in central Illinois to think that cruising for 20+ years to retirement is 'normal'. Umm, this isn't the 50's. The long and the short of it 'in Bloomington' is there are thousands of employees who ride coat tails, make good money for the market, and are delusional enough to come onto an internet thread blaming everyone and everything else for their woes.

Central Illinoisans (aka 'homing pigeons') are the LAST people to embrace change (A German farming, passive aggressive, covertly racist society), own-up to their mistakes/problems and take ownership of their lives (see every other comment on here), or demand more from themselves and their community (ISU athletics, potholes, high taxes, failing schools, etc.) - I'm from Bloomington I can say that.

I get your frustrations, but folks, look at yourself in the mirror- take ownership of your life. It isn't State Farm, or your spouse, your kids, elected officials, or ISU athletics lol- it's YOU. Make your own change.

Learn new skills, take new risks, and stop blaming everyone else (Robert Yi!?! LOL)- don't be an AmeriCAN'T. I followed my own advice, took a risk in myself, said yes to some crazy things, self-improved, and repelled the lethargy/entitlement of Central Illinois that I myself once had. Since 2014 when the 'light came on' I've MORE THAN QUADRUPLED my salary, left a PARA-PROFESSIONAL role in department that ended-up getting chopped a few years later (karma), live on a snobby golf course, eying early retirement, and have a GREAT plan B... I blame Tipsord every time I'm in my pool with a mai tai in hand.

I'm still accepting more mentees!

Robert Yi was a failure and he is responsible for the operating model that State Farm operates under today….thank god he was asked to leave

Companies don't OWE anyone anything. Put your big boy/girl pants on and except the reality of the changes that naturally occur and will continue to occur throughout time. You did the right thing for YOU!!!!!!!!! Stop bi-----g about what leaders do..........you don't have to make those decisions.

OP congratulations on your new position. I do find it interesting that everyone is blaming Tipsord for the financial woes. Wasn’t Rust at the helm when the billion dollar boondoggle called CDE was set up and running? Sad that the same leadership responsible for that waste are trying to fix this mess and added Henchman Fawad. This restructure is eliminating the experience and skills that are needed to rebuild. Instead they are eliminating not based in lack of skills and performance, but tenure and age. I never thought I would see such a heartless, cold management group in my life. Fawad will bring this company to its knees and then leave for newer pastures.

OP congratulations on two things 1. Your new job and 2. not be blind and made a change. So many people get stuck thinking things will get better.

I did the exact same thing after 27 years. It's so sad that the company is being run into the ground by Tipsord. I have a new found respect for Ed Rust, Jr.

Good on the OP for getting out.

My only regret was not maxing out my 401k. I relied way too much on the pension. Stupid move on my part.

That’s a lot of identifiable information.

Why would he care? He starts another job NEXT Week.

Is he going to roll over in the middle of the night and find Tipsord and Fawad engaged in a tryst in the middle of his bed or something?

I did the same 23 years at the Farm, it was time my wife and I were worried the last year it wasn’t worth it to stay. I would say the top executive will probably be listed under the Erin Kenneth Lay shortly. Life under Rust was completely different great work environment loyalty and we had growth. Good luck to all.

You are SPOT on and were smart to get out. I'm living these "transormations" and know first hand how they are wrecking the lives of hundreds of employees. You're right, the company will survive. But in the mean time, those of us who made this company the biggest and the best will be left far behind. I'm not sure how Tipsord and Robert Yi can live with themselves. It is heartbreaking...
