Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Transferring stores?

Anybody knows if those of us working in stores set to be closed can transfer to nearby Macy's?

There are two other Macy's stores that are not too bad for me commute wise (not ideal, but better than nothing,) and I was thinking of applying for a transfer.

Anybody knows if I have a chance of getting it, or should I not waste my time on it?

But the one difference is that two years ago, stores were not cutting selling jobs like they are today. Up until now it was done when people left and jobs didn’t get replaced, but not this time.....You can check to see if anything is available, but I’m betting there probably won’t.be. Our location is cutting at least 23 positions in selling and a couple in support. If stores are laying off they won’t be taking transfers.

2 yrs ago my store closed. I picked 3 stores in the area, and one had an opening for the same position I had. They will freeze anything open and not give to holiday hires until people make their choices. Be careful if you turn down an acceptable spot they don't pay out your severance. Going thru that liquidation process was horrible. Your store is run by the liquidators and the whole scenario is just sad.

It's not a waste of time... see your HRBP or ASTS in your current store. That is supposed to be the process in place, they freeze new hiring in moving on locations to accommodate the transferring associates.
