With the pay cut in my salary, I will go back to 2012 level pay. But I will just have to remember to honor the pmp process and be a doer as this is the new Chevron way!

Overheard senior managers saying HR is telling management to be very careful about how to pitch the salary treatment and autopromotions message as HR does not want age or race discrimination law suits and bad press.
Chevron no longer pays for performance. It pays instead for staff being of the right demographic population.
So BCG proposed this nonsense? Makes sense. Promote those that BCG deemed highest risk for jumping ship. Cut all other Petrotech pay. With the exception of the autopromotes, this is a massive cost saving paycut for all other Petrotechs.
If I were CVX management and wanted to achieve the same end goal, would have given the autopromotes extra bonus, not promotions, and phased out Petrotech over 3 years to avoid anyone getting a paycut.
Should have required over paid management to come up with a solution and hold them accountable. Yeah, never gonna happen.
Only BCG could have f’d up this badly. Should have used McKinsey. Buyer beware...

This type of stupid action could not have been made by anyone actually on the ground, but rather must have come from above by someone detached circling numbers on a spreadsheet. I am commonly shocked by how often Chevron completely ignores its own project management philosophies... something tells me this action did not get a full review by all the stake holders.
I’m sure management is only doing what Boston Consulting told them to do. Everyone knows our management doesn’t have the guts to make these decisions on their own.
What's the highest CO% a person can get as a 2? What's the highest CO% a person can get as a 2+? What % is the 100% CO increased year to year?
“Why is everyone hung up on the PSG #?“. You must be joking. Chevron deliberately has very low wage variance for given job categories within grade, so PSG directly reflects compensation and the longer you are in grade the slower your advances. So folks focus on that: Go figure!
Why is everyone hung up on the PSG #? It’s not like these people magically are more qualified for the jobs that are “old” 25 positions.

-Mbqg: Agreed, it cheapens the whole PMP process and is demoralizing across ranks. Many 22-24s who were overdue for a bump got theirs, but must feel a bit put out it come as a gang bang rather than a recognition of their achievement. Also agree with -Nvds, PSG25 was particularly butthurt by the process.
Current 25s got double f***ed, with the influx of lower paid previous 23s & 24s into the 25 pool. Future raises go first to get those below the mean raised up, depressing raises for those at 25 longer term who make above the mean of the rank.
What a complete cluster and circle. Should have kept the Petrotech bonus. Completely unfair on multiple counts.
Truly shameful decision by management. The promo from PSG24 to 25 is very difficult and they just handed it out as if it was cheap candy. Some PSG23s got a double bump so they skipped PSG24 entirely. On top of that, they have created a complete cluster in terms of inconsistent PSGs between Upstream and Downstream. There are very few PSG25 jobs in the PDC to start with now there will be twice as many folks competing for those jobs.
What a morale booster for PSG25...PSG24 and below auto promoted while PSG25 gets sacked...well now the pmp process needs to be sacked as well.
Did upstream capability promote the petrotech?

The rumor is true indeed! PSGs 22-24 auto-promoted, nothing for PSGs 25-27 in this cycle. I had to earn my promotion to PSG 25 few years ago and very troubled that this just happened! The HR/management didn’t even provide any justification/explanation to these higher PSGs as to why they were left out.
Autopromotions - can someone explain? My supervisor didn’t say anything about that to me.
As someone privy to the promotion process, generally speaking the only subjective moves would be that part of the population in the bubble-up and bubble-down zones - Eg is that person a 2+ or a 1.
This latest scheme of auto promotions and changing the rules for PSG 25+ is just a massive corporate FUBAR on the longstanding process. No, pay scale band adjustments should have been the way to go.
The other variable is the company’s desire to “get its demographics right”, which is why you see higher proportion of women and minorities moving up than in previous years.
I, on the other hand, tend to believe more the strong point made by Jses. It’s just my opinion, like the assertion Jrka makes. Chevron prefers to make subjective moves where it possibly can.
Jses is incorrect. The salary bands change with time in response to market conditions.
So who got automatic promotions? Which BU? What discipline/s? And based on previous comments all psg’s below psg 25 got the bump?
@Jkub, You are very astute in finding a solution, but corporate remuneration cannot simply change the salary bands for each PSG because that could invite a discrimination lawsuit they could lose in court. If the change in bands are not uniform enough, that’s where Chevron will fall. What they prefer to do is exactly what they are now doing. The salary bands don’t change, but their reasoning for promoting some and not all remains subjective. Subjectivity is something easier to defend and much more difficult to prove as discriminatory in court.
Jppf - don’t feel alone, you’re in good company. Nothing like having the rules changed in the middle of a game. The PMP and Promotion processes are supposed to have a level of sanctity that is now shot to hell. Why couldn’t corporate remuneration simply change the salary bands for each PSG?
I am a five year plus 25 with a base under $200k, which I infer is nothing to brag about.
