Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Unofficial official layoff report 1/14/2018

No major layoffs this past week. Total stay at 7,275 for FY18 YTD and 17,275 since 6/1/2016. Many disconcerting discussions about more layoffs to come. Keep your eyes open.

Most companies jettison employees instead of retraining. It is stupid and wasteful but this is how they purge older people with higher salaries. The CBT is the new normal too. The shift started in the 2000’s. Now when you purchase training for thousands of dollars, it is online. ILTs are rare and are usually online too, with a remote instructor in a tiny window on your desktop. MS windows server training will run you $15,000 at New Horizons Training. At least they accept students who are out of work. They used to require you to be employed by a company. Companies expect you to come in with the training and certs. Not many sponsor you. I found this out the hard way. Maybe Cloud skills are different since they are so hot right now.

Bull CRAP ! I was part of several hundred who had their last day on January 8th and was given a printout of the AGES of all laid off for attorney review, to sign that we wouldn't sue ! The irony is that 90+% were > 40 yrs old and in Sr positions, most related to on-prem field sales of HW, etc

While this is probably a wise business move to reduce On prem SW and HW focus and grow cloud focus, the funny and sad aspect is that none of my peers got any calls from HR to discuss or help finding jobs inside Oracle where many cloud slots are opened. This is Oracle's biggest weakness : 1) having strategy dictated by a very few in ivory towers that are not in touch with customer field reality, 2) Not gathering, nor allowing any feedback from the field regarding how to improve things, and 3) not training or offering any way to develop skills other than some brain dead online CBT high level remedial skills training they force the field to waste their time with, vs. real instructor hands on training classes, or even reimbursing for college classes. Oracle will have many more layoffs in on prem areas as the public cloud competition matures (and will be it's own root cause of collapse if it doesn't wake up!).
