Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Co Manager Update

CoManagers, Thank you for a job well done, thru the Holidays and the Year!

These changes are coming about after you have worked extremely hard long, hours and taken time away from your family through the Holidays! Also, after you have probably given up PTO and time off through the year as well.

This is very confidential Information, and all have been threatened that if there is a leak and they can find the individual, they will be terminated. WOW!! What transparency! Maybe the new leadership should learn the Culture! Respect for the Individual, be honest, forth coming and keep the open discussion environment. The UNVARNISHED TRUTH should work both ways and not just up! Maybe your Regional, Market or Store Manager should look to trust in you and tell you the truth if not is this the type of Company that you want to work for?

The Unvarnished Truth!!

  1. Meetings held last Friday with all Mkt Managers, Mkt Human Resource Managers and all Store Managers. (Remember the level of talent in these positions: Several have never run stores at the Market level, but will be making the decision for the future!)

a. Talent discussions were held on all CoManagers. Very subjective discussions and not a very

level set meeting. A lot of favoritism, and buddy system playing out.

b. Not all of the best were selected, a lot of good talent will be lost in this process and not even

be retained as assistant managers. What a drain on talent again.

c. CoManagers were banded within the following catagories:

RED - Not retained or gets immediate severance pay and no time to look for a job. If you

have a coaching then you will fall into this category.

YELLOW - You will get an option to demote to an assistant manager; or 60 days pay and

severence.

GREEN - You will be offered a position. It may not be in your current store; or 60 days pay

and severence.

  1. All Regionals held a conference call with all Mkt Teams, Store Managers, and CoManagers. Basically gave the WalMart talking points.

a. Not a long term position, must be actively applying for stores and has a 3 year longevity.

b. Store Volumes and placement of CoManagers:

$80 million to $90 million dollars in sales = 1 CoManager position

$90 million to $125 million dollars in sales = 2 CoManager positions

$125 million and above in sales dollars = 3 CoManager positions

  1. All levels of management have been through this process Divisionals, Regionals, Mkt Managers, and their counter parts in Asset Protection, Health & Wellness, and Human Resources. (Though most at the Regional level above were given preference options).

  2. All the 1700 Assistant Manager positions that will be added will be in Online Pickup and Grocery Pickup and will not be immediate.

  3. There were Regional Hiring events for assistant manager placement back in November and December. Why if they new that this was coming? This was not dreamed up after New Years.

  4. The week of Christmas there was information that came out in reference to the Policy change on Voluntary Demotion Request regarding Management. Wow there must be a lot looking to get out. Now this change.

You should always be prepared with a resume and the leave for a better opportunity. A lot will stay through this process and be caught up in the same process in future years. Use your time to better yourself and get out of this Company and go somewhere that you will be valued.

GOOD LUCK and WISH ALL WELL with the outcome and the process!!

DM and GF and many others have really screwed this company to the ground. What a joke to have hourly run the store. No structure.

After twenty one years with Walmart they let him go after he was shot in his home during a home invasion. Walmart doesn’t care about their employees managers etc. They only care about the profit. When I have to go to Walmart now for a phone card there is one register open. The rest is self check out. Walmart is eliminating as many positions as possible. Getting rid of greeters too. Pure greed.

It’s been a year, and I for one am in a better position than when I was killing myself for this company.

I work a casual 8-5 as a government contractor, all holidays and weekends off.

Same money, and I don’t have to screw over hourly employees anymore. I never realized how much doing that depressed me.

Walmart lost sight of what made them great, they will soon follow K-mart into oblivion.

They will never overtake Amazon, and will never get back the talent they threw away.

Word is, Assistants are next. I wish you guys the best, but if it does come to pass- there is life beyond the blue.

Start making sure you have an exit plan! Don’t wait. The Holidays are going to be extremely painful this year in the stores. No temp holiday help, inventory nightmares due to the tariff situation with China and further structure changes. Notice how all competitors are already hiring seasonal temps. UPS and Fed Ex will be layering on a lot due to the growing of online shopping. They couldn’t handle the business last year and are already gearing up. These are long term bet companies! Try to move now!

If you haven't received your severance yet, you might call associate support. I called today and they told me mine should be paid out this week. The lady said they were "restructured" as well and only have 2 people processing all of the severance packages, which was company wide, not just Co's. Hopefully everyone is paid soon.

To @RflyZGR-26wri, let me inform you of such thing as a calendar. There has been 6 week since the March 31st date of our last paycheck. No need to be in a hurry, draw all you can for up to 12 months until you find the job uou want.

Try again, angry, bitter, WM manager. They said their position starts in August. Which is usually when colleges begin the school year. Depending on the state they live in, they can draw unemployment until then. I too took advantage of unemployment for the 7 weeks it took for my severance check to arrive. This was on the advice of my attorney. For what it's worth, in our severance package, WM recommended we have an attorney review the settlement package. Don't be bitter because you are still giving blood, sweat, and tears for a company that doesn't give a damn about you as a person while others took advantage of the way out and found happiness.

Within a week of our 1/26 conversation I accepted a teaching position at a local university, making much more than I did as a Co. I have enough savings and no debt to allow me to live comfortably until my position begins in August. You better believe I have absolutely no problem letting Walmart provide me with a little spending money through unemployment until I receive my severance. Walmart planned to get rid of us last fall during the regional restructure but made a conscious business decision to keep using us through the holidays for the benefit. So you best believe I have no problem using them for my benefit.

To the one that says I am lazy for drawing unemployment. Let me inform you. Savings was enough to live for over a year. They paid me enough to live for about a year. Not working and no debt means I can live for 4 years. Turned down 4 jobs from companies recruiting me and walked into an interview for 12 mins and was hired for a job making over 100k and working 44 hours a week. Never been happier in my life. GOD is great.

Already left, found a more satisfying, higher paying job elsewhere. You are obviously a long term employee who got to your position by default, and s---ed at it. You are just a pitiful POS whiner - “they owe me”. Good luck with your new job at McDonald’s.

It's not lazy for anyone to take advantage of unemployment which is owed to them. Walmart made the decision to terminate employment. Some folks also apparently managed their finances to allow them to continue to live comfortably in case of an emergency or situation like this. By the way, $500 a week is more than a new hire hourly associate at Walmart makes. Do you walk around the store hollering at hourly associates, "Good luck living on $500 a week."? One day you too will leave the Walmart occult and realize what a twisted way of thinking exists among leadership.

good luck living on $500 a week. People like you are part of the reason the eliminated the posistion, to clean out all the lazy, waste of payroll.

Good thing I signed up for unemployment on them. Now after waiting 8 weeks for the check they OWE me, I guess I will just ride them out and force them to pay me unemployment the rest of the year.
