Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

RNs look here for companies hiring

Hello fellow HCM-RNs. I wanted to list some of the places I have seen job openings that are home based. If anyone else has anything to add, please do so. We are all in it together folks.

Aetna, Anthem, Cigna, United, the Travelers, BCBS, CVS, Carenet, Liberty Mutual, the Hartford.

I am sure the intent is well meant but I am pretty sure the people searching for jobs have already been to these places. I know I have, several times.

I was let go from Optum (UHG) last summer. Although they are quite profitable right now and you will find job openings the threat of layoffs is always eminent and morale is low. I think in this industry if you work at any of these companies now the pressure is immense, the potential of layoffs and reorganization is always there. Gone are the days of working someplace forever especially in volatile economy in healthcare.

I appreciate the board, it spurred me into looking for a job back in November. There are a lot of jobs as field case manager's with work comp companies. I ultimately decided to go back to a Case Manager position in an office. I appreciated my time with Humana but was not willing to stay will all the uncertaintly. Good luck to PHC's and RN's. The risk with RN's taking jobs out of acute care is that it is really hard to get back in if we are out too long. I am in that category and at an age where I don't get as many calls for interviews as I did when I was in my 30's. I haven't been clinical for 10 years so it was a tough job search. It took a few months but I ultimately found something. The pay is low but I was grateful for the opportunity.

Hundreds of nurses will lose their jobs and become unemployed. Some will not find employment for awhile because they live in areas that don’t have plentiful job opportunities. I think the poster was probably posting that to help the nurses affected by the RIFs and NOT to get people to leave Humana. If you ask me, any nurse working for a large company particularly insurance is on the chopping board. We are all taking a risk by doing this. Once the RIF announcements come out I wish everyone the best of luck, the people who stay and the people that don’t.

Don't go to Carenet. I worked for them before Humana. Even the most loyal employees are leaving them bc of poor management issues and unfair practices. They are hourly and pay is miniscule compared to what we make at Humana and deserve as RNs.

Thanks RN Kim. I’m a PHC looking for work. I’ve checked just about all the companies and I don’t see anything if you don’t have some sort of a license.

PHCs if you’re reading this, I will look to see what I can find that will come close to your skill set and update here. Just know you are on my mind and in my heart. KT

Thank you so much for posting! I was up all night working on my resume and applying for anything and everything. Worse case scenario, I've decided that this may be the push needed to explore an area of nursing that I've never had the confidence to pursue. I just know that this page has become something of a support group for me, and I'm grateful. Good luck to everyone affected! I look forward to seeing posts from people about their successes in life after the big H;)

I was a Personal Health Coach with a Bachelors in Psychology. Most of the jobs I see are for nurses for care managers and health coaches. Does anyone know of places looking to hire for wah jobs without being a nurse or having a Masters Degree?
