Walmart is starting to do Rank and Yank, GE Style

I think someone should head over there and tell them that this is not good for the worker (they seem to think the rank and yank will separate the good from the bad)... Oh, well...

Walmart would then be making the same mistake GE made. That is, assuming that it CAN properly rank its employees accurately and that the ranking itself does not lead to outsized negative behaviors.

Walmart beware! GE didn't just get rid of Immelt last year but also Beth Comstock who admitted that she "shaped GE's future". Apparently she wasn't very good at ranking people.

Companies were doing it before GE and a lot adopted when Welch rolled it out. It has it's merit but seems to be waning.

“The percentage of companies reporting that they used a forced-ranking system declined from 42% to 14%,” he says.

Pretty clear GE's Board of directors should have used it more, wrong employee group was targetted.
