Much awaited cuts for the WDG divison which doesn't has much talent. The group was much destroyed by internal policies and politics of untalented managers.
On the cobra front, the only way out of paying them $1500 / month would be another qualifying change during the year. So don't sign up in a panicked rush !
Molina will provide almost the same thing for your family at $400 / month assuming your post employment income is low.. And in $75 for delta dental to protect against cavities. You can use your health care savings account to pay for all this.
On the >50 in tech front, I strongly advise building up a portfolio of income generating stock and rental property. Usefully the healthcare exchange assess income on modified adjusted gross income which in the case of rental is after deductions and costs...

You gotta figure that with win10 in sustained engineering at some point the need for a large dev and tools org around it will diminish. The only growth area of substance is azure - although most of that is hosting existing technologies for less money. If you did get cut today

beware of cobra. Very expensive and you will be locked in for the year. Get a silver plan on the exchange and save money - your income will be low this year until you get another job.

If you didn't get cut, one day it will happen. Build up outside income sources like rental, dividend etc.
