Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Is today the day?

I've seen people mention both Wednesday and Thursday as the D-Day for Walmart layoffs. Trying not to panic as I get ready to go into work.

I have to admit, I'd like it to be today, just to get it over with. One day makes little difference when it comes to being laid off, and a lot of difference in the level of stress we go thorough waiting to find out.

I may be wrong, but it was my understanding that they keep the displaced on payroll for 60 days which is effectively fulfilling the WARN act requirement. They give you 60 days notice before you are technically terminated. You may be prevented from coming into work or accessing systems, but as long as you are on payroll WARN is satisfied.

The company appears to have decided to do a pile of cutbacks and are claiming "performance" as the reason, not for any restructuring or realignments, HR said the federal WARN act doesn't apply. The were quick to point out they were still giving 1 additional month as a full associate, and if you sign an agreement (who knows what will actually be in it, probably signing away your right to sue for age discrimination and to not say anything negative about the company), they will give you a few thousand dollars. Why would the go the cheap route and attempt to bypass the federal WARN act? They are playing with fire and a class action lawsuit. I doubt I am the only person who was told this today, and no documented performance reasons and I haven't received a bad review ever. Seems very strange

I heard they are not sending out planner invites any longer. They just come and get you.

Keep in mind that displacement meeting planners may go out the day of the meeting. That happened in my case.

At HO meeting planners go out at about 6pm for the following day. If you are displaced, take it from someone who has been displaced that although it is a terrible feeling you will be okay. The first week is the worst - very emotional (mad, sad, feelings of failure, etc), but as time goes on you start to feel better. The key is to apply to 7-10 positions both inside and outside the company per week so that you find something. Trust me, the job market is competitive in Bentonville so be ahead of others. It typically takes 2-3 weeks to get a call back so start applying right away. Take advantage of the outplacement service too.

Hope best for all....

If you didn’t get a meeting planner last night, you should be OK. If you survive today, check your email tonight for tomorrow. Prayers and positive thoughts!
