Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Right-sizing Happening Now

An exec just said blatantly in a pretty large all-hands call (sales/tech sales) that there is currently a right-sizing exercise going on in IBM and it will affect everyone (all orgs).

No other details given, other than it will be discussed in each individual group in the org with the managers. The whole thing sounded pretty depressing, the exec even say it hurt their heart and will create gaps in the organization and hurt our ability to sell. Sounded like it's in the works now and imminent.

The call was to discuss the new organization and it was clear that some first-line managers had very 'light' teams so I'd expect some of them to go as well as further consolidation as us worker bees get cut too.

Even more absurd to have an inexperienced manager for 20 people, but that's IBM for you.

Since you cannot do the technical work we think a lead or manager role would be perfect fit.

It is absurd to have a highly educated and trained manager for four people.

Patently false information. Select layoffs (as in the past to stay under the media notice wire) likely to occur just after IBM THINK conference.

Any time someone says "all orgs" I think you need to consider the source. Most people, including executives, take a very parochial view. To say "All Analytics is hit" would mean everything from sales to marketing to tech sales to software development to training to offering management to consultants...... but that's never what the speaker means.

To the guy whose post ID ended in -ndx...stop trolling. It's already a tense situation for many of us. Don't need your ridiculous comments with the 3rd grade spelling and punctuation to make it worse.

Yes I have heard rumor that all first line manager in software & analytics the reorganization is just the way to to get rid of all the first line manager. True bee told anyone with over 15 years in will bee RA in just two months. So don't believe anything your manager telling you because they don't necessarily no the fact. This is true fact's front the top.

In typical IBM fashion, a greater proportion of first-line managers will most definitely be RA'd this time round BUT they'll be notified later than their direct reports so that they complete the 'dirty work' whilst still feeling relatively motivated and without distraction. This has happened in previous RA's so noone should be surprised.

First managers should start to go. There are managers managing no one or teams of 4. Consolidate the valuable people and get rid of the managers who add no value.
