Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Don't blame it on HR

We get cut too... Look for posts recorded earlier this month and in 2017...

With RIFs, HR is not the judge or the jury. HR is the executioner. We have to be. it is the job.

If you are in HR and don't like doing that part of the job, then maybe they need to find another career.

I hate it, but that's the fact.

HR isn't the executioner.... you're giving yourself too much credit. You're the middle man. WM Hires you to shield the high level mgrs. They want you to do the dirty work and I guarantee you, they won't have your back if push comes to shove.

Hr is tasked to save the company money as they are a cost center. That is why more people are being termed for cause. Wheather it is true or not wmt saves thousands of dollars per layoff. Don’t tell me this org is worthy of our respect when they make the decision to term as many people as possible to save money.

Said by a true member of HR

Maybe HR will layoff everyone except for HR

Then maybe they could do some real work for once

Lotz of HR apologetics's going around on this site.

Makes ya wonder if Walmart corporate is reading these comments.

Oh wait, never mind.

I know they are reading it.

New HR Slogan:

HR - Apologists without actually apologizing

Seems like a lot of people over 40 get hit, longer years of service, higher in their pay bands. Some of the HR people in these layoff meetings are nice, unfortunately this is not always the case. One guy that handled the ISD layoffs was rude with a superior attitude. Shameful

HR is just another job, but don't forget that they work for the company, not for you.

But I'm sure most people don't like delivering bad news to employees, but they're not the accountants and managers who made the cuts.

The original poster described herself as an executioner. If thats how she views her own job, I sure as hell wouldn't do it. Would you take a job as an executioner? I sure know I wouldn't. I don't need the $$ that bad.

this stuff goes on everywhere and every year. it s---s but keep your heads up. If WM will get rid of the Store Invoice Clerks (one of the most valuable associates), then we are all expendable. Besides, it gives all of these execs something to do. I mean, 18b net profit/yr isn't enough. more, more, more

There has been lots of cover up on Walmart as they are doing layoffs since beginning of last year. Since they are spreading layoffs over a year there are no big numbers to report on the NEWS. And NO it’s not HR fault at all. HR is just doing their job and what they are told by leadership. It’s the tone at the top and they are being sneaky and playing nasty game with associates who are forced to work harder out of fear and compete with each other! Com’on Walmart, you can do better than that!

This should be discussed but we need to keep it civil.

I know many folks in HR, they are trying to earn a living. Almost all are honorable and proud people, doing their job in the best possible way. Many are crushed with layoffs.... They have been hit with layoffs too, they too know they are just a number in this big game...

Your comments are quite insensitive. Most HR I’ve come across is quite empathetic. And Frankky, we are ALL in this and they have the exact same worries and concerns as anyone else. Implementing a Reduction in force s---s and is painful, but not unethical. So the stab at “just doing my job” is unfair. I suspect some of HR is walking out with you today so how about we support each other and quit throwing blame.

No you can start bashing me because it will make you feel better about yourself.

The WWII war crimes comparison is a little ridiculous.

HR has a job to do to help manage associates who previously earned the privilege of having a job with WMT, not a right to have that job. Too many people think a high paying job at Walmart corporate is their right.

Sometimes, that privilege ends and that's just life. If the company decides they don't want to pay you to do that job anymore, that's not a crime, and if HR has to inform you of that, that's certainly something I wouldn't lose any sleep over if I was in HR.

Anyone who works at isd knows it’s mostly white and Indian guys, who else will they lay off? You know it won’t be the Indians until vendors get their turn

I have seen the quite a few names that have been axed. For the most part white dudes over 40ish. Only white guys in ISD will be ppr 77/78 and higher. And of course the execs that run the company. :-(

Yep, sounds a lot like the Nuremberg defense in the war crime trials during WWII, "I was only following orders"...

Some pretty horrible people in history have used the "just doing my job" excuse as to justify doing stuff they knew was wrong. If you can live with yourself after doing tasks you find repulsive, then do your job and enjoy your money.
