Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

No longer requred

I to was called on Thursday after working with Walmart for 16 1/2 years and was in the process of transferring to a new position.

My current Director said my position was no longer required.

Funny thing is no one had any experience on the team except myself.

I have all great reviews and was asked several times to join other teams in ISD.

I am a white native african pacific islander asian indian trisexual (in transition) handicapped deaf and mute mother of 16 children and they laid me off, too.

Oh, brother....... wah wah wah.

Here's what happened: the markets had the choice to keep who they wanted. If you made yourself valuable, helped out and knew the business, they kept you. If you didn't, then, you just learned a lesson about capitalism and the free-economy.

Get your act together, quit whining. Unemployment is low and there's lots of jobs out there. Go get one.

I was a 26 year associate in the stores. I am male, non-hispanic, two full sleeve tatts and 3 inch toenails. I show-up to work everyday and often volunteer for overtime, when available. My manager called me in the other day and told me my position was eliminated. I am grateful for the time with the company but, I have worked very hard for WMT. This is a very sad time for me and my family.

You have a very bad attitude. I can see why you were terminated!

To la-a. Sounds like some possible discrimination in your case. Not sure though.

They are getting rid of dead weight the cos that been in the position for years first come first to go that's why those that are new to the position were kept, now any who get the co position will have it for 2 years it's meant to be a transition period meaning getting a person ready for their own store. So in the long run the good cos will become the next store managers and maybe we will see some of the bs s tore managers gone

I am bi-racial and have a prostetic leg, obese and an alcoholic. I fit in to multiple protective minority statuses. I was laid-off and can't believe it when I see others who weren't.

I got laid off the same way with 22 years. Many people I work with were also laid off. Everyone was 40 plus years old and had many years of service. The younger less seiniored people were kept. So march 30th when we are all termed the company gets all our reserve stock units back that are not vested yet. For me this is 40 thousand dollars so if you multiply that out to 500 people and I am sure most had more then that. Walmart will have even more money from it. It's disgraceful. I'm wondering if any law firm may see there may be a class action law suit here that could be substantial.

Age discrimination for sure. Same job but the ones who were kept were either young or had the buddy system going.

I too was released by phone and happen to be African American, as a matter of fact all African American women who were Co's in my area were let go. Count it as a blessing!
