Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Pause. Read. Reflect. React.

I wonder if the wage and hour investigations will start to open up. All the hourly associates on here that are constantly posting, reading updates, posting feedback, and forwarding all of this noise while on the clock. It’s time to be grateful. Time to grow professionally. Time to mature. The members are counting on you. Each of you are professionals. Many of you are responsible for for millions of dollars of revenue. Act like it. You are true entrepreneurs. Once again be grateful. Retail can be fun. Make it fun. It’s up to you when you walk in the front door. Hope everyone takes a moment to reflect on these commitments.

Commit to your business.

Believe in it more than anybody else. If you love your work, you'll be out there every day trying to do it the best you possibly can, and pretty soon everybody around will catch the passion from you – like a fever.

Exceed your member’s expectations.

Give them what they want — and a little more. Make good on all your mistakes, and don't make excuses — apologize. Stand behind everything you do.

Control your expenses better than your competition.

This is where you can always find the competitive advantage. You can make a lot of different mistakes and still recover if you run an efficient operation. Or you can be brilliant and still go out of business if you're too inefficient.

Swim upstream.

Go the other way. Ignore the conventional wisdom. If everybody else is doing it one way, there's a good chance you can find your niche by going in exactly the opposite direction.

this is the sort of things we used to hear years ago...I never believed it then as now...I will point out two or three things here that when said by management they want you to think one thing but the reality is very different. 1. Control your expenses..what they want you to think is about making sure you do not go into overtime or do not requisition store use items if you do not need to. Save electricity where you can. Cut shrink. So and and so forth. Now what it means to them. Keep wages as low as you can even by giving poor reviews if necessary. ( in the days of review based raises) Pressure higher paid associates so they either leave or get coached out. Do not hire full time replacements for the full timers that leave. Run your associates as ragged as possible so as to hire as few people as possible.

  1. Swim upstream. This one is absolutely hysterical in light of the fact they just shut down 63 clubs so they can clamor to be like Amazon.....................

Just remember almost universally those in authority lie cheat and steal in order to get you to work harder for them to get their agendas accomplished. Mislead and pull the wool over your eyes. Maintain your attention with one hand while stabbing you in the back with the other.

Now here is the way to defeat all of that. Work for yourself , not them. Remember it is your car , house , clothes or food for your kids you are working for. Do your best for the sake of your own conscience. (assuming you have one) Do your best in order to keep your job as long as you need or want it. When you do this they will believe they have you on the hook but that won't be true because you will be working for you , not them. Lastly if you believe in God work well for him , not them.......................

I look at this sight while I am at work & I don’t do it on company time. I usually work an eight hour shift so I get 2 breaks & a lunch. So don’t assume every associate is stealing company time!

Let's not mention that people do have time off. Mostly like myself get on here on my time off. That is not wasting company time. But since you are worried about that then we can stop using our personal phones to look up items for members because the company doesn't pay for our data. Unless you are management and are willing to give them access to your activity outside business related. Before it is said, yes we do have Wifi but it is so weak you cannot connect to it.

We do appreciate your positivity, but I think it's just too late. Too many people getting tossed out like they meant nothing. No thought into who or why. A computer picked you, so take your papers and get lost. Thousands of families lives turned upside down so the higher ups can line their pockets and take more flights to pick who is next. They seriously closed my store THEN picked 3 managers and said you guys don't get to go anywhere. You're done here. And the managers left were the ones that should have gone. All the people in our store trying to find something else at another Sam's or Walmart, you know what they got? Most everything was part-time only. The majority of our full timers had to go down to part-time. Corporate knew that's the way it was going to be. They don't care. Sad part is this is not over yet. Come March or before will be round 3. John Furner has succeeded in destroying this entire company in one year. Sure they'll try to pump everyone up and say how it's all part of a bigger better plan, but that plan is to get rid of as many people as possible. Replaced by third party/scan and go/self checkouts. It's over.... The company, the morale, the good times, everything is just over.

Totally agree!

Some show up.

Others come to play.

The few come to win.

I believe the old adage applies to the three respondents. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink. By definition you can show people the way to do things, but you can't will them to act upon.

I want whatever this person is smoking or drinking or whatever. If ignorance is bliss, then this person must be one of the happiest people on this planet.

Another brainwashed idiot who when they are done with will be just another forgotten face. The people you are referring to gave a better half of they're lives to this company and worked hard to get it to be what it became and all they asked for in return is respect which they were and are not given. So keep kissing that corporate a--. The way your talking you should be some big player with the company but I bet you are not but you talk like one. Maybe this company wouldnt be where it is if not for hiring rude, uneducated, disrespectful, milinials, with sh--ty up bringing to run Wal-Mart. But then again, they are cheap labor who this company knows won't last or stick around between wasting they're lives and cashing out they're monthly EBT cards. They let go of good hardworking repsectful associates and talent because they have to pay a little more for people who earned it. "YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.)

You don't believe all that stuff Mr Sam believed in anymore do you. The sapp's running his company sure don't. Payroll is a joke to give that member the service they deserve and so much stress is on every employee they cant come to work and enjoy it anymore.
