Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

Thanks IT Transformation

Its not all bad! Post up benifits you have seen in your life thanks to IT Transformation.

I'll start

  1. My tolerance for alcohol is approaching my college years!

  2. My savings account has never been bigger as taking the family out to dinner, vacations, etc all cancelled until further notice.

  3. Forget team mentality, I am looking out for #1 like never before

  4. Healty conversation initiated by the wife nightly. "Have you figured out if we are moving, who your going to develop for? Whats the plan? Whats the plan? Whats the plan?

Thanks for keeping me on my toes! LOL

Don’t forget to contact Lifeworks. They have surprising resources. Some Free counseling, Job coaching and resume building etc. (I think you would qualify). Good luck from a claims colleague. There is life after SF. I am finding it exciting once you get use to the freedom and over the initial anger and terror and work through the unknowns. There is a grieving process but I see glimpses of the future on the others side now after a few months. I’d avoid the alcohol, think about what type of work environment you want and find companies that offer that. A “do over” opportunity doesn’t come along every day (thank goodness). Carpe Diem!

My favorite part has been watching project managers trying to be architects, technical coordinators, and god knows what else. I suppose that would be okay if they hadn't decided to completely ignore their traditional PM responsibilities.

It's a mad scramble as everyone tries to prove they fit into the new model.

I'll second the "learning like never before," but the company isn't paying squat for my education because I've already been given a QTD. So I'm paying for it myself. But it's been a good thing in terms of building my confidence for the coming job interviews.

I decided to focus on gaining certifications in things that I am already familiar with. This has helped me to understand where industry-standards intersect with and deviate from my State Farm work experiences. It also gives me a deeper and broader understanding of topics that I already have implementation experience with.

I'll tell you one thing. I'm not working anymore. This is partly because no one will give me anything to do: and that's partly because I won't be here in two months and partly because my managers respect my predicament enough to let me focus on my future. A big thank you to them.

Ha! This is funny. I'll play.

Right there with you on the alcohol.

On a more serious note, it got my a$$ in gear to start learning. Not only is th company paying for all my learning resources, they're paying me to sit and learn while at work. If they keep me they'll reap benefits. Either way, I win as far as I'm concerned.

I started work towards plans B and C in October after seeing other areas affected. If laid off, I'll be able to hit the ground running and GTFO out of Illinois finally.

I have the entertainment of watching my teammates scheme against each other hoping others don't apply to that infra analyst job on MyBlock that no one is even qualified for.

My manager took severance and is leaving end of March and works 6 hour days. Finally get so make some decisions of my own bc lord knows they don't care anymore.

I happen to commute from far away so I get to avoid the collapse of the housing market in Blono after this and actually sell my house for market value.

All in all, it still s---s going into work everyday not knowing where you stand. Do what you can to come out on top.
