Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

Clock may be ticking

State Farm is doing what all companies do, maximizing profit. It is not inherently evil, it is what companies do in a capitalistic economic situation. What you can do as an employee to prepare is this:

  1. Figure out what debt you have and start paying down as much as possible by highest interest rate or lowest balance.

  2. Build up your credit lines. Credit cards, lines of credit; etc.

  3. Update your resume, have it looked at by people who specialize in it.

  4. Buy beer and whiskey, you’re going to need to get f---ed up (first with your soon to be ex-coworkers and then alone in the shower).

  5. Stock up on movies, preferably x rated ones because you’re going to have “a lot of time on your hands.”

  6. Practice your interview skills.

  7. Network. Network. Network.

  8. Don’t be ashamed, this was something that was done to you, not by you.

  9. Be patient, finding a new career takes time.

  10. Support companies that support you.

Except they're not maximizing profit. They're grasping at straws, and while they're latest moves will cut cost, they are almost certain to reduce revenue.
