Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

Will we ever again be able to feel safe here?

I'm just wondering. The way things have been going, any trust and good faith when it comes to State Farm is gone.

Even if they say the whole process is done and there will be no more layoffs I don't think anybody who has been through this whole ordeal will believe them.

We've been lied to once to many.

And if people on't feel safe, how will that affect the company? Not positively, that's for sure.

You will never feel safe again at SF. This recent reorganization is just the tip of the iceberg. Yes, changes needed to be made after the CDE billion dollar fiasco, but the same execs that agreed to that mess are trying to fix it. Claims has been destroyed and lapse/can is out of control. We are no longer competitively priced. If the BOD doesn’t get their head out of the sand it will be years and cost a lot of jobs. Allstate just sank to #4 behind Progressive. Wake up executives and read the writing on the wall. Our agents write 98% of the policies that keep SF in business. Their support network is being cut and more change is thrown at them than any human can handle. Yet they expect production to increase. WTH? I have lost hope that this will turn around. This is not a stock company but MT seems to run it as one. Let’s slash and burn the experiences folks that built this company? This is unconscionable.

@S5225dx-pju - you hit the nail on the head. No, we can never feel safe again, and the best thing to do is plan your exit strategy. If you are safe now, there will always be another re-org coming. Get your ducks in a row now and leave on your terms when the time is right for you,

When you couple the SF down sizing with incompetent, over spending, over taxing, mayors and councils, BN may never recover. Every time they meet, they decide to increase or create a tax or fee. It is unaffordable to live here anymore. And if that weren't bad enough, both BN have racked up insurmountable debt at $100,000,000 in Normal alone. How the heck can either city or town recover from that?

I'm sorry to say this is the norm and SF is just getting started. You've seen your vacation and sick time revised, rumors of SF park being sold off, taking more and more employee perks away. It's just starting. I've seen it with IBM, cutting jobs and destroying communities. Empty buildings signal they once were there. The executives walk away with fat wallets and long-term employees are left to scramble for any type of employment. It will take a long time, if ever, for B-N to recover from this. I wish you all luck and peace.

This is the second time I have been through this in 5 years. First time I was given an undesirable offer of a lower job level with a salary decrease of 12,000. A step down over a two year span. So, no longer trust job security. I was able to lateral out and keep it, and going through the process again is fraying nerves everywhere.

The only thing you can be sure of while these particular execs are running the show is that they do not care about you, and they are grossly incompetent, as evidenced by the sh---show of the last several years: losing policies, wasting money on a useless Systems re-org that only made things worse, losing market share, tanking the customer experience.... I could go on.

Seriously, if you have marketable skills and can find another job, get out.

Leadership has lost it's way regarding treatment of employees. No, you can never feel safe again. They want you to be on edge all the time and fearing the next re-organization. No matter where you go or what you do, you should start (or continue) getting your financial house in order. Pay down your debts, build up an emergency fund, save for retirement & college. This will mean sacrifice, but financial security is the only security you will know relating to your work life. Most people stay and take the crap that is served to them because they can't afford to go someplace else. Wouldn't it be great to be in a position where you can take a hit of 3+ months to do a job search to find "the job", as opposed to running like lemmings for a crappy in-office claims job that is dangled in front of you?

No. We stayed at this company that does a poor job of pay for performance bc of the job security. Now we know they lied about letting go of the staff Augmentation externals first if they ever had layoffs. Nope, we're keeping externals including offshore despite the push for everyone to be colocated and we're letting go of the internals before their pension liability gets too big for Tipsord to stomach

And if the cuts are going to continue in other areas, as many have said, are employees who move to areas now just going to be delaying the inevitable layoff in a few months? If that's even true. They could just be referring to the open claims jobs... I thought SF wasn't paying for reskilling? So is that what the forms are for? Telling SF IF they can place you somewhere else or not? But again, seems like we're not talking about a whole lot of open jobs in other areas since SF only mentioned claims jobs in BN and moving to hubs.

Are there really over areas to move to? I thought no areas were allowing IT to move over. But this is what Tribune says:

“They can also apply to other departments … if they do not want to leave Bloomington,” Dundov said. “It’s just their skill set in the IT area, those jobs are going elsewhere.”

This seems overstated to make SF look better. How many open jobs are there really in other departments in Bn?
