Because Q will soon cut out AVGO from all modem components specifically front end. And AVGO have no way to get back in with 5G except buy someone. I am behind Q on this one, time for Hock to face reality of $0 spend on R&D

Broadcom cuts costs so much that it can't grow without eating other companies. Qualcomm is attractively priced
With minimal R&D expenditures .... maybe AVGO tech is at risk of becoming outdated soon .... in that case acquisition of R&D firms may be a way to survive without actual R&D cost.
I suspect it‘s because Broadcom wants to be able to offer the complete innards of a smartphone to customers like the fruit company.
