On a serious note: You either starting writing your own script or keep letting others write it for you. Unfortunately, most people go through life like the latter.
I think it's funny that "Erie Guy" thinks someone, anyone knows the answer to his question. If they knew the answer, they would have already acted on it Erie Guy. They don't know! Seriously... they don't know. They really don't. They aren't hiding it from you. They just don't know.
Get out of any sort of reoccurring payment situation. Pay off your debts. Get your savings up. Be happy and not anxious.

The reason upper management is not telling you is that they have not made any decisions yet. You will have the sword hanging over your head until you hear something from media. This site has to many rumors and people trolling. Your best bet is to look at site after some event (layoff, sale, etc.). Then you may be able to sort through and find some good advice because many of us have been through this bull ---- before.
U will bow down to me at our meetings every week and listen to my safety spew.. I am not aloud to tell you the truth ... I need you as productive as possible when you hit the floor. Everything is wonderful here at the Erie plant silly.

From my experience, GE will just keep stringing you along believing your position is safe. Seriously, you will be told your role or facility is safe, your performance feedback will be great, and suddenly you are given notice. Don't expect them to be honest and upfront about who is at risk or anything. Everything they do and all communications are designed to benefit them. Make your own future plans, don't wait for this slowly imploding company.
