Thread regarding DST Systems layoffs

Don’t lay me off!

I love my job! DST has been great , I well,we have been milking the proverbial teet for years. My department “works” about two hours a day. We spend most of the day in meetings discussing how we should or could work. We come in late, take extended lunches and leave early! This is the norm for the folks in management and it has trickled down. While the higher ups think of who to axe next. Frankly as the years have passed I have been asked less of, been paid more. I see most of my coworkers do the same. I can’t see why anyone complains on here. Job isn’t as fulfilling as it once was, but hey it could be worse! As in selling a inferior product, outsourcing jobs, worse insurance , making a once good work environment bad by never knowing when the bottom will drop. Oh wait.

Being close to retirement and ready to retire are two different things. If you are financially stable and can afford the vastly expensive individual insurance, then you're set. But if you're not, and need the income and the insurance, consider flipping through the want ads. I was a long term employee and finally realised the reality of being able to retire from DST was 50/50. My concern was that I might make it through the next couple years, but the older I got, the ability to get on with a company after a layoff was less and less. Few companies will hire 60 year olds. Spending the time and resources on an associate for the short term isn't good business. A 60 year old won't get Medicare until 65. Individual plans are tremendously expensive.

This is just food for thought. It depends on each individual. But for me, it was time to go. Better salary, better benefits, and a descent amount of vacation.

For younger associates, get two years of experience and then move on. I can't cheerlead this enough. The market has way better options, especially if you're in IT.

Omg, people don’t fear this. Dst has been good for a lot of people. If you hate it, then look for another job. If you love it then work until they let you go. I’m close to retirement, I’m sticking with it until they let me go. Love my vacation time.

Just think.... Soon you'll be wishing a layoff is the biggest problem you have. Do you people even understand what's happening in this world? And to boot, the SUN is going to fry us all.soon enough. Save your b--chin and start enjoying what little time we have left.

Some departments work extremely hard for little pay. Did you know the call centers can't even use the restroom without asking permission, and that sometimes the answer is "NO"?
