Sanjay Jha was the reason Motorola went further down the tubes, and ultimately was bought.
The Broadcom offer seems to explain China’s lack of approval for the NXP deal. Now that there’s an investigation, Broadcom deal most likely won’t happen. Also keep in mind, Broadcom doesn’t need anything more than a Headquarter in the US and pay US taxes. If they take over, all the jobs can and will leave the US and go to Singapore and China.
While Sanjay is very sharp and can rally the troops, I also remember him as a slave-driver whose philosophy of running QCT in a "slightly" under-staffed manner led to QCT's inability to do any longer term improvements because we were in a perpetual fire-fighting mode due to our poor SW quality. In my mind, he is from the same mold of Octane. He is an upgrade from SM, but don't hold your hope too high.
He stepped down from Globalfoundries today.
I had the pleasure of working with Sanjay years ago when he was merely a Director. Since then and as his career developed, he continued to be an excellent lead with a clear vision. May be the timing is a coincidence, let's see what happens on Monday.
