Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

The company is still losing money

SF is still losing policies at a rapid rate. The plan they have to streamline this company is going to continue to come full circle. The only thing any individual can do is save as much as you can. And also decide if you are going to try and stay with the company. There are a LOT of second line leaders, analysts, professional tech etc that are willing to move without relocation to a Hub. Stop the trolling and bashing of externals and focus on what's right for you. 2018 will see an oversell reduction of 20% of the entire workforce regardless of location or department. Let that sink in. 20% reduction. That's why every department is going through a structure study.

You are correct, looking at the cuts already made in P&A, SR, L&D, etc... the cuts are about 20% across the board.

It's better an dsafer to just find another employer. I understand being willing to relocate for a good job at a good company, but State Farm is no longer a good company, and I believe job security here will continue to be shaky for the foreseeable future. There is no way I would relocate for this company.

Funny thing is, after I was severed in the last round my managers encouraged me to apply for a job that would require me to relocate. I was a shoe-in for this position, and I would have gotten it if I had applied. But my gut told me to walk away. It turns out my gut was right -- if I had relocated to Bloomington, I would now be scrambling because my new job was removed in the last round of cuts.

How sad is it that State Farm is willing to let a loyal employee move across the country on his own dime, uproot his entire family, only to terminate said employee a few months later. I'm sorry but that stretches the boundaries of what little moral credulity we expect from typically amoral companies... it borders on sadism.

My advice: do what's right for you. If you can get a job with State Farm that will allow you to learn a marketable skill, take advantage of it and then get out. It's a big country full of fantastic jobs and this company does not deserve your loyalty.
