Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

The auto claims metrics set you up to fail from the start

Metrics say each new claim should take 15 mins. If you have a 2 car loss, a recorded statement from ONE of the drivers involved takes 10-15 minutes alone. Think about if you have more than 2 vehicles involved and how long that will take to get statements from all of the drivers involved. Then you are only scheduled 1 hour to do new claims. It takes an entire hour to do statements and explain processes/coverages Not to mention documenting the file, setting up repairs, etc. Then your manager scrutinizes you for not doing enough or you took too long. So, you are penalized for not getting that 2,3,4 car accident completed in 15 mins. Earlier post was accurate, production tracking should be based on the type of job you have.. we are not a manufacturing company.. liability investigations take time and alot of in depth thinking especially when you are working 10 states with different laws in each state. How you can put a time frame on complex claims is an utter slap in the face to your customers. Bad faith going on like crazy not to mention 3rd party doi complaints. I yanked all of my policies 3 years ago.. I cannot give a company my business when they have no respect for what the job actually entails/running their people in the ground. Whatever it takes to make employees fail so they can terminate them or push them to retirement and that's exactly what is happening in my building.

Oh and if you have to help a peer on a complex claim you go into unplanned activity but then your manager scolds you for that because you are not following your schedule. We are a complex department and people do need help from time to time. Being a good team player is not encouraged anymore so now when people ask me questions I tell them I cannot help them as I will get in trouble. I WAS a valuable resource to my peers!!

I work in Express claims for 14 states. Metrics are a joke. 4 new claims in an hour is impossible if you are doing the job correctly. Auto Estimatics research? New mail? CR's? None of it is achievable if you adhere to the processes as you are supposed to. So most people take shortcuts to achieve their TPR and they get promoted and great bonuses. If you do it correctly, you are screwed. Process confirmation? Seriously? Is not putting "close" on the bottom of a file note the end of the world? Cause it sure seems to be. My TM holds us to a higher standard then any other TM in our area, the SM is aware of it and no one cares. Other TM's don't seem to think it is a big deal.

Auto claims can not be based on metrics. Each claim needs to be handled individually. People pay more for SF insurance and they know it--they pay more because they expect more customer service. This is why SF is losing auto customers at a record rate and the JD Powers rating has dropped so far. It's what happens when a bean counter is in charge. And SF is now firing people at an amazing rate. Avoiding severance pay? Any other ideas?

Metrics are taking over the world, government, Amazon, SF... The ones at the top pocketing more money by using this kind of modern slavery but WE the people are not innocent... What the hell is a customer doing calling claims after hours if body shops, banks, etc are closed? Why are we demanding more from big companies if the ones having to do the job are ourselves? It is not the CEO neither stockholders the one sitting at a desk on a Saturday or after 5:00 pm waiting for a call from whoever feel like calling after hours for us to tell them call back tomorrow when the shop or the bank is open (lienholders). My point is the working class (US) keep shooting ourselves on the foot.

So that's why my TM was talking about PE....I hate offering that because there are so many variables...and I have had way too many calls from Estimator's saying the vehicle doesn't qualify for PE...blah blah... They always have an ulterior motive..ALWAYS.

I do love how management has to sell the "b---s---" to us worker bees...I wonder if they gag on their words and how they sleep at night knowing what they are doing to us...what they are setting us up for.

They are some of the most ethically challenged people I know. Also I don't trust a one of them...I don't trust management as far as I can throw. They have no trouble with looking you straight in the EYE..and flat out lie. Not white lies....but bald-face LIE.....

I have a relative who worked at the Post Office when his leadership started pushing this "so many pieces of mail per hour" stuff. When my relative pushed back, they had him evaluated for fear that he might go postal.

What's funny is that his manager -- the one pushing all the metrics -- was found running down the middle of the highway completely naked. He had apparently lost his ever-lovin' mind.

My father is retired claim adjuster. Worked with another company. This started just before he retired. He said it would be the failure of the company. He was correct. METRICS is great on paper. However in any atmosphere where it is not an assembly line or close to it then metrics is not going to work. Lean six sigma, metrics = loss of employee’s and customers. The people who approve these things are not in the field, not doing the work, just listening to salesman sell them mathematical computations that on paper are outstanding. Its taking over the world, and creating anger and hostility and animosity. The top level folk are getting quite wealthy as companies are reduced to a point of failure. By the time they figure they made a bad choice, it too late. Companies that value the customer and the employee are thriving. Go figure. I asked a local grocery store stock person for some help on locating an item last week and he acted like I was wasting his time. I politely asked him to please just give me a couple minutes of his time. He said and I quote, “ I have a case count to hit or they have no use for me” I said what do you mean. He said “ Metrics say I have so many that must be stocked an hour. I then realized we are all in trouble. He is probably minimum wage and being worked like a machine. As sweat on his shirt and forehead was obvious I realized he is under pressure as well. Better wake up corporate America.

General Electric attempted EOM. Why wouldn’t we learn from their near disaster?

What I love right now in Express is that they are focusing on the Estimate method. First choice is SS, which is great if it’s available in the customers area. But now they are tracking the percentage of PE, VIS, EA and Staff estimates. I now have to have a certain percentage of PE’s. How can this be done when one of your top states doesn’t offer it, or the customer doesn’t have a Smart Phone? A lot of our customers are not Smart Phone users. This, my friends is setting the employee up for failure or we are all just going to send a PE assisgnment without the customers knowledge. Seriously....miss our metrics, miss our metrics, miss our raise and bonus.

The IDIOTS tracking the work, and the MORONS who come up with the metrics have no F'n clue what the hell the job entails. Then they specify how fast the work needs to be accomplished. Maybe Tippy should go on Undercover Boss, dressed as a woman, like Tootsie, to see what the job really involves.
