Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

It could be worse

I know this seems bad right now but just imagine how much worse it would be if the Broadcom deal went through. We'd have lost much more than what so far looks like to be a number in lower hundreds.

I know it's small comfort to those who were laid off, but we need to remember that it could have been many more of those.

It'll get better after this, at least I have to believe that.

b---s---. Broadcom would have layed off people who are not making money for the company. Q on the other hand is removing people more or less randomly. Perhaps based on last TRR, which is also extremely unfair.

OP is one of the typical posts from someone who has not experienced a consolidation phase.

The last 3-4 years in semi sector unusually high number of M&As happened. These marriages are to compensate the loss of win margin of the companies because semi sector is slowing down due to the world economy slow down. All these companies fire as much as they can. The fastest cost saving is to fire people, "opex reduction". Period.

In other words, Quarkcom will implement mammoth layoffs no matter if its buys a company (you understood which is meant) or it will be bought (also the same).

All the posts here are early signs of a bigger earthquake coming in Quarkcom. Another massive layoff is coming. Even without BRCM. You will get surprised.

Many, many years ago in my previous company I was discussing with manager about the dot.com phase - I had asked him how to survive. He said "you must have a very good CV". So prepare yourself, update your CV, train yourself at home for new things.

You cannot change things. So forget the past and think about the future.

Don't forget, semi sector will lay off everywhere in the coming months, 1-2 years. Due to the world economy status mentioned above. The trade war between two big countries will speed this up. Fed interest rate increase speed this up.

You guys have not experienced dot.com crisis or 2009 crisis. So these tips might not be helpful because you guys did not live these phases. Just wait and see and experience it. And write down my words here, you will remember it many years later :-)
