Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

how safe are startups?

just wondering if somebody here maybe has some experience with working at startups? i got a job offer that would get me out of qualcomm with pretty much the same pay i have now, but i'm a little scared to take it as I'm not sure how reliable startups are in general. especially tech startups.

is it worth the risk?

Startups are for uneducated risk-takers.

How reliable is Qualcomm? They just laid off and there are more coming... Q isn't any more safe than startups

I did this in 2015 I’m back , you never know what your getting into , if you jump make sure you get a sizable portion stock options on par value, don’t except equity unless part it is RSU’d or preferred stock where you don’t need to buy it . Interview the founders and see how they might be in a day to day , they can make your life worse than q. If you leave make sure you have good relationships at q , they aren’t going anywhere ..

Another thing to keep in mind is that if you have been doing R&V at Q, startup may not be the right choice.

How stable is your job at q ? Maybe better potential at the startup. You should be able to estimate the chances. You never know what's going to happen next. But I think q is finished..

Wimps, job security comes from dedication to work.

Ask what the runway is, then subtract 6 months. That's how long they are stable for
