Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Retail Closure Roadmap

I work at Verizon in the real estate lease and property department. My job is to manage leases for corporate stores and find and lease locations for new Verizon stores. I feel it's my duty to tell everyone whats going on because when stores close I will most likely lose my job as I wont be needed anymore. I have a wife, kids, mortgage, student loans, medical bills and some other debts so trust me I know how you guys feel on the front lines. Take the following information and prepare yourself and your family.

*Stage 1- Stores will open one hour later and close 1 hour earlier.

*Stage 2- Stores will close earlier on sundays.

*Stage 3- Some stores will be out right closed on Sunday. (If your store is closing on sunday that means the store is NOT profitible)

*Stage 4- Stores will combine and some layoffs will occur. (for example store A and store B will become one store and the store with the lowest rent/overhead will be chosen)

*Stage 5- Verizon will not seek to renew leases on locations this is when stores will start to close. The average lease will expire around the 2019/2020 timeframe (I was told this would happen no later than 2020 for stores not producing a profit. This is near the date of the 50 shares vesting that were gifted to employees, it will be part of a severence package when stores close)

*Stage 6- Final Stage- Behind the scenes your stores lease will run its course and expire, 3 months before this date employees at the condemned stores will be notified to make final plans and prepare.

Please use this information to prepare. I will not post on here again I wish you all well we are in this together because without stores to mange its only a matter of time for me. And I could no longer look employees in the face and act like everything is ok.

Welp the news was just delivered today that four of the corporate stores in the Dallas area are closing and the reps were given 30 days to apply for an opening position elsewhere.

Noticing indirect stores popping up all over the Phoenix area. On the rare occasion I stop in a corporate store for something it’s empty, just sales people standing around. I do always get pitched HUMs before I leave.. I just show my Vz ID and wish the rep luck.

Northeast store. My manager is heading to a GM meeting in the morning, too. Seems awfully suspicious.

Not going to point out the actual district, but a district in Georgia.. there is a GM call tomorrow that a lot of people are worried about. Managers and reps have been looking at threads online and it looks like the layoffs have been mainly west coast. Maybe the first rounds of layoffs begin tomorrow for East coast. Best of luck everyone. I will update once I hear more.

I do not work in Retail but have been told that the plan is to make all retail locations INDIRECT. That was over 12 months ago and at that time I thought it was a joke. But looking back and seeing how many locations we have lost to INDIRECT I see that person was not joking. It doesn't matter if they update your location VZW has been known to throw good money after bad. Does anyone remember that webcast where they spoke about Alibaba?

It's not Verizon's fault....it's how you survive. Adapt or die."

What did you "adapt" to?

Not all leases terminate at the same time within a two year window.

Our store is in its 4th year of a 10 year lease ,the store is huge, it s a combination of 2 location in a strip mall that were combined by knocking down the wall between the 2 stores and making 1 front door. It has a sit down type bar that the customer service reps used to give classes on iPhones and androids. The format is archaic What stage will that be Stage 10 LoL

@1kwg Clarification on the Vested Stock pay out:

It says on the company employee info page “about you” that any voluntary separation (offer, retirement, resignation) and you still get the payout on the vested dates.

Clarification on the Vested Stock pay out:

To the poster whom said we get paid if we quit, no we do not. If we are not removed from the company due to an involuntary RIF, there is no pay out. Only way we get paid is if we're still with the company come January 2019 for our "first" payout, and we get another payout in 2020 if we're still employed.

All right folks it looks like we're finally here. My store has a visit on Tuesday from an executive that has been in the works for weeks...he's the head of the entire Northeast Retail operation. Why the heck would someone that high up be making announced store visits? Because he's picking one to close down.

Get your popcorn ready. This board will be riddled with scoops in the coming days.

I overheard Phoenix Arizona will be 2nd on the list and will combine stores by end of q4. I got ahead of the game and already interviewing with non retail companies.

The date that the 50 shares vest should have nothing to do with it. You still get the value of the shares if you retire, resign, quit ot get laid-off, the only circumstance that prevents you from getting it is by being fired. All that info is on the company website.

Are stores being turned into next gen stores safe? Doesn't make sense to spend money on a remodel if the store is going to be closed.

The mall stores are the easiest to convert to indirect, hidden in plain sight. Also, if some of those malls begin to fail, you don’t have to go through extra steps to phase stores down.

No mention of the several hundred mall locations. Most of these stores have to follow mall guidelines and hours they are open. My guess is that the stages this guy mentions has nothing to do with mall locations unless they are smaller malls losing tons of stores. There are still a few hundred malls in the country where i cant see Verizon pulling out especially if the other big 3 are around.
