Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

Walkout

Has anyone ever considered a walk out at the Farm? For years we were willing to take meaningless pay raises in exchange for long term security. Now security is gone, and the pay is still not very tied to performance, and is less competitive by the day.

Could a walkout, if done by enough people, change anything? Or would it just be a way to speed up the layoffs?

I'd terminate everyone who goes AWOL.

It's been tried and it's been done. Doesn't always work out the way you want it to.

Sh*the can start to get messy real quick when you are threatening the livelihood of someone. Especially if they are already desperate and at the end of their rope.

Good luck to all.

I think it makes sense to at least investigate unionization. We are basically a white collar sweat shop where we are treated as interchangeable cogs in the process du jour (agile for 2018). Seems like a situation ripe for union representation.

IMO the walk out would only be beneficial if we had union backing. Without that we would have no protection at all. I imagine that the majority of us are taking the abuse because we need the security of a job. Recently the idea of a union was brought up. I understand that there are both pros and cons to joining but where are we now?? Could things be worse if we had a contract and representation? At least our supervisors would have to follow a protocol when it came to terminations and write ups. Perhaps some of our ethical issues would be resolved if someone else was watching.

Should we at least reach out and meet with one for more information?

A walkout would mean nothing. Like other companies, they will tell you if you don't like it, you can leave. There is plenty of other people who will take your job. My advice if you are unhappy, go somewhere else. I did.
