My group was not one that received a "volunteers wanted" email, and after careful consideration of pros and cons, I decided not to volunteer. However some developments in the last month makes me regret my decision. it is getting pretty obvious to me that I will leave Q within this year. Now the question is, does it make sense to wait for the second layoff in the hopes of being able to volunteer? It seems to me that the 2nd round will be more targeted to redundant business units if Nxp closes, rather than a company-wide sweep. My group will not be one of those. If it doesn't close, not sure how the layoff will take place.. With all these different parameters, what are the opinions on people's ability to volunteer in the 2nd round?

As rank and file you expect a bonus at next focal? With all this talk of belt tightening I don’t expect to see one. Maybe for VP and above. They clearly deserve it — just look at all they’ve accomplished!
I start the new job June 20. Thanks Qualcomm for the 6 week paid vacation!
Well, I am sr staff or higher and have quite a bit of years under my belt, so yes, I do fit the criteria. I am not ready to retire but I am ready to give a break for personal reasons..
I guess I'll just wait and see.. Now that I've missed out on the severance, I wanna at least get the Nov vest and end of year bonus.. if another layoff happens till then, great. If not, it's ok..
Don't worry. We have more lay offs coming for sure. Let's see if we'd get to volunteer or not. I hope we do get/
Dude just find a job and leave like every other normal person. Take control of your life. YOLO!
Unless your senior staff or higher and have quite a few years at QCOM, your severance package won't be all that great. I wouldn't try to time your departure to a lay-off unless you meet the criteria above and are about ready to retire.
If you do decide to try it, there's no telling how long you'll have to wait. As someone pointed out, this was the second round. If you're referring to the two (or actually three) departure dates in this lay-off, it's all the same and the list is final.
2015 was the first round, this was the second. There will be a third, and a fourth, and a fifth, etc...
Lol
No Second Round. All hands on deck for continued success and growth at Qualcomm
