Thread regarding Bed Bath & Beyond layoffs

Get your resumes out there now before competition gets REALLY tough!

Think about it. 30,000 jobs at stake when Toys R Us goes under. That's a guanrantee, regardless of "when". Smart employees there are already applying and landing interviews to other companies. Secondly, if and WHEN this second round of layoffs come, that's another few hunder-roughly 800 people on the market looking for jobs. If you're one of the people who have been with this stinker of a company for YEARS, I'm talking 10+, it's most likely been a long time since you've interviewed for a job, am I right? Now, it doesn't hurt to get your resumes out there sooner rather than later, and just go out to interviews, even to the ones that you're not that crazy about. What's the worst that could happen? Of anything, it'll hone your skills at interviewing, and you might even get lucky and get a a great offer that you weren't expecting.

As for me, I've been sending out feelers for companies, but I've also been doing my research. I don't want to go from one sinking ship to another--of you know what I mean. I've gotten a couple of offers... One that was actually more than what I'm making now, but I turned it down because o wasn't too crazy about working in apparel (did that 15 years ago... No thanks). But I went in for the interview regardless when they tried to recruit me just for the experience and was surprised by their offer.

You may be the hardest worker out there, you may know YOUR store like the back of your hand, you may have your routines in order, and everything comes so naturally to you at BBB, but all of that means jack squat if you can't interview well. Just the truth.

I want to wish all of my fellow store leaders (from the past, present and future) good luck out there. The last round of layoffs cut me in the heart with a knife.... So many good friends, great co workers, hard workers with families and mortages GONE in the blink of an eye. No one deserves that, and we (at least I) miss you.

Let's just try to be kind and respectful towards one another.

For the record... I am an ASM in the west region, been with the company for 15 years. Started out as a part time cashier, and have been passed around from store to store in a little game the District managers like to play called "manager musical chairs". Ive seen a lot of stuff, and I am so sick of working my butt off and constantly looking over my shoulder.

We've been warned. The writing is on the wall, so time to RUN and determine your own fate before they decide it for you!

Your are right, the ship at bbb is sinking slowly! They are delighted to see others die in the retail world now it’s their turn, all of them can die! I’ve already adjusted to being laid off and found plenty to keep me busy. Some of you guys will suffer depression from feelings of being thrown out like you Never mattered because to bbb you never did!
