Massacre of Admins in AMENA

Stories never end , this time it is from one burning platform that has the look , feel & facts of overpaid expats whom are layered over and over with personal preferences and alliances ,it is the Dubai Office.

The office accommodates around 200 to 250 people , they are from different functions and sectors .60 administrative assistants are working with the office population, some are personal admins for executives while others are doing work for teams.

A decision was taken to keep only 20 out of the 60 .

The HR managed it like this : They brought the admins in a room , told them we only need 20 from the pool of 60 . They added that they will publish 20 open positions and you can all apply , then interviews will be conducted until we finalize the shortlisted 20.

I wonder why didn’t our creative HR do it in a wrestling competition better , or bring the admin wearing boxing gloves and who ever is knocked-out loses?

Or maybe they would do it through a draw or a bingo competition ?

I honestly can not believe how those leaders think , do they think at all ?

We know that people are not important for the management , profit and money is , so even for their own benefit ,the brand name and the corporate reputation is at risk with those actions ,there are much more better ways to drive manage outs.

Whether the company produces cars , cosmetics , foods & beverages ,hiring good people for a business is always the most important task. The second best is how for any reason they fire them .After all a company is only as good as the people in it behave & react .Recruitment & HR professionals have this responsibility on their shoulders. The bottom line is : Bad executives are bad for the business & they are even worse for their employees.

They ravaged the admins in Chicago HQ and IT, too. It’s clear they don’t value the role or the fact that admins are what keep whole place running smoothly.

Even if it’s a 100% financial decision I think they’re missing an important point. Admins are relatively the cheapest form of labor in an office environment. Any task they can do for virtually any other employee is saving PepsiCo money. Their entire job description is saving PepsiCo money. That work will be absorbed but they’ll be paying people at much higher rates to do it.

It’s really unfortunate how short term payroll gains override common sense and long term financial efficiency.
